Yeah, me too. Big time.

I don't know what the line is to take the chance... but it's somewhere significantly south of that for me, for sure.

At the same time... not sure I want to perpetuate paying a guy for his draft position. Clowney has made a living off of that.

Eh, we'd be paying him more for what he has shown in the NFL. He gets a lot of pressure and defends the run well. We've seen Donald help guys who get pressure turn those pressures into sacks in recent years. Personally, though, my top choice would be Preston Smith, if the Packers release him.

Amen. Plus, him thinking he is worth anywhere near AD money is simply delusional.

There is a price I’d be willing to pay Clowney. I don’t think he’d accept it.

I was thinking we’d get creative the same way we did with Floyd. The key being Clowney being willing to take a 1 year contract whereas I think Floyd cashes in to a multi year deal.

The rams signed Floyd to a 1 year 10 million dollar deal but 5 million was in signing bonus and the rest spread over 3 years despite him only being signed for 1. In this scenario Clowney would not be counting against our cap for 13 million.
Thing is though, Floyd had 2 voidable years, so now his Cap hit is 3.7 mill in 2021 even though he isnt on the team. I'd prefer they figure out a way to re-sign Floyd instead of just taking that hit

I'd sign him for 7 million at most, takes plays off when its not 3rd down rushing the passer, doesnt like physical down and dirty playing.

No thanks, unless it's a VERY team friendly deal. Other than that, no thanks.

Now that intrigues me a little bit more depending on price. All though he's currently under investigation by Colorado police for an unknown reason isn't he? But if he's free (figuratively and literally) I would kick those tires.
Yeah def need to see what happens there. But he was a likely cut candidate even before that

Different sites have him at different rates but one I see coming up consistently is 6.5 million prove it. I'd have to agree with something closer to that as he got 13 million last year and flopped. Lastly it's a covid free agency some players will not get anything near what they expect the market will be saturated with cuts and many players will have to take one or two year deals.

I hope this is right I’d definitely take him on a 6.5 million prove it deal

Would not touch Clowney. Even the presence of AD will not help him learn how to contain because it requires give-a-fuck.

If you want a guy to buy low on who might deliver some really good play I think Bud Dupree is the best bet.

I never followed the Texans unless they were in the playoffs or playing the Rams so I didn't really watch Clowney. I watched him last year when we played Seattle but I didn't think he made much of an impact. If we're going to spend north of $10 million on an edge player I'd rather they just keep Floyd. It just makes more sense unless Clowney will sign super cheap.

He’s in the 95th percentile against the run. actually higher than Floyd in both 2019 and 2020 overall according to pff he’d be an upgrade in both pass rush and run def

Oh, that's interesting. I didn't know he was a free agent. Definitely not a bad option either.

If we're throwing out older high profile guys with question marks i like Miller and Watt over Clowney.

Von Miller news from January 15th SI article:

While some have been quick to jump to conclusions in the immediate aftermath of the Parker PD's criminal probe, Me'Gan Denise — Miller's pregnant girlfriend — released a statement via her Instagram account on Friday to say emphatically that any rumor of domestic violence on her boyfriend's part is false.

"In light of recent media reports regarding my relationship with Von, I feel that I need to address a couple things,'' Denise wrote. "First and foremost, at no point in our relationship was there any type of physical abuse or violence by Von, whatsoever. For anyone to say otherwise, or speculate such, is wrong.
"With regards to my (previous) social media posts, a part was misconstrued and taken out of context. I do regret making a private situation public, and in doing so, bringing unwanted attention to both Von and myself.
"Von and I are excited to be welcoming our baby into the world, and are committed to raising our child with love and compassion, together as a family.
Sincerely, Megan Denise."

Obviously, any criminal probe into a player of Miller's caliber and importance to Broncos canon is worrisome but it's important to remember that he has not been charged with anything at this point. The best tack for Broncos Country to take is to allow the Parker PD to do its job and let the investigation play out before jumping to any conclusions.

However, the timing of this criminal probe into Miller is very inopportune. Reports have emerged in the wake of Paton's hiring as GM that the Broncos are likely to approach Miller about a contract restructure. Paton reportedly would like Miller back but not at his current $17.5 million price tag.

Miller will turn 32 years old in March and is coming off a 2020 season lost entirely to an ankle injury that required corrective surgery. Entering the final year of the contract that made him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history back in 2016, the Broncos hold a team option. That means that the Broncos have the prerogative to either exercise, or pick up, Miller's option, or let him go.

If the team didn't pick up Miller's option, he'd be a free agent unrestricted to sign with any outside NFL team. The Broncos might be inclined to negotiate with the former Super Bowl 50 MVP in hopes of him either accepting a pay-cut or working out some sort of contract extension that would lower his 2021 salary-cap hit and give him additional years on the term.

Why I don't like Clowney: he defends the run well when he wants to.

If the Rams sign him he will tank.
