My 49er fan friend keeps saying Carl Eller was better. The fact that he's my friend is the only thing that has stopped me from feeding him his own hat.

Better at snorting? They did call him Moose.

Tell your whiner friend Tarkenton was better than Montana. And the Vikings didn't cheat the salary cap or give their players cash bonuses under the table (incentives for better play).

I was a big fan of Roosevelt Grier too.

When my dad was younger, he got mistaken for Rosey Grier from time to time as people didn't have any concept of how big Grier actually was. I mean, my Dad was like 6'1" 200 or so, but def not DL size, even for the late 60s.

But yeah, he was in LA and was kinda like Forrest Gump... He seemed to meet EVERYBODY.

Grier seemed like a great human being too.

No question. Alan Page was absolutely great and belongs in any discussion of the greatest defensive lineman of all time. To me, he was an iconic figure like Deacon Jones or Jim Brown or Bill Russell. After he retired Page went on to become a justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court.

The Vikings D -line at that (end of 60s into 70s) was one of the best ever. Maybe the best ever. (Don't shoot me, I loved the Fearsome Foursome too! They were just a few years ahead of Page and company.)
