Jourdan was talking about this on the podcast yesterday. She was saying, while sites like "over the cap" are good, they don't go into the details of contracts that can effect money owed. I got the notion that she may have been talking about the injury aspect. She also said that she hasn't seen Staff's contract, so she doesn't know the intricacies of his contract. Either way, I think a team would really have to blow us away with a trade offer, so I doubt we move him.
A team could blow us away with an offer, but the Rams couldnt take it even if they wanted. The Rams are scrambling just to get under the cap now, there is no way they can absorb the dead cap hit they would take.

Honestly, I have...a trade scenario for Stafford in my mock. I don't know if y'all will agree, but we are getting a quarterback who can help with the tank for Caleb Williams, yet plays well himself.

I don't know shit about contracts, but she was saying there may be something in the contract details that could save the Rams from the dead money hit. At least that's what I got out of it, bc she has to know about the dead money part. But then again, the podcast she did was super vague and she didn't articulate what exactly she was trying to portray.

There may be somebody who gives us 2 first round picks for Allen Robinson but I doubt it!!!!

There is no way out of dead money. Stafford got a 60 mill signing bonus upfront, they ate 1/5th of it last season, only 4 years left on the deal.
She can talk about it all she wants but unless Staff is going to pay it back, theres just no way

Yes, it's the prorated bonus @ 18.5 mil in 2023, 24, 25 and 26 = 74 mil...
But they'd save 1.5 mil in 2023 salary!!! Now call me stupid but that doesn't sound like a smart move.

I may be mistaken, but I recall years ago that a player paid a team back some of his signing bonus which lowered the cap hit of moving him. My guess is that the acquiring team got those funds back to him.

18.5 is the cap number, which includes the 6.5 mill roster bonus. The roster bonus would be paid by the fictional team that trades for him. (or at least is negotiable)
The 60 mill signing bonus is 12 mill per year of dead money, 48 mill left. No way around it

Unless it was a retirement deal, I dont see how thats a possibility.
And of course if its a retirement deal, he wouldnt be traded

Got it. Spotrac has better breakdowns than OTC.

It wasn't a retirement deal. It was a player that really wanted to go to another team. I wish I could remember.
Then again, maybe the rules have been changed now.

***He's got 18.5 mil in prorated bonus money spread out from 2023 through 2026 which immediately hits our cap in a trade. A new team would not be responsible for that. His cap hit this year is 20 mil so if we keep him he costs us 20 mil and if we trade him he costs us 75.5 mil. He is untradeable until after 2024 season.

Everything starts with Stafford's cap numbers.

I don't see how the Rams get around killing their 2023 cap with any kind of trade.

I can't see McVay signing off on trading Stafford. That relationship is too good
