Ah. I see now. I think I actually remember that now that you're bringing it up. Eh let byegones be byegones. Everyone fucks up from time to time.
I get that but Jake was not sorry one bit about the way he carried on. To me thats more important than the people mess up time to time because if he said, my mess up and owned up to it, then I'd respect that way more. Instead he acted all defensive about that shit. Can't respect it, but to each their own.

My issue was that he aggressively responded to those who were nasty and insulting to him.

However, he never responded to those who offered a more tempered, constructive criticism.

I couldn’t stand listening to Jake witter on like a fanboy while Whit sat patiently waiting for a question :)

Fair play for getting the interview - he was clearly ecstatic - and it will help him earn some income

Would anyone here care to relay anything interesting that we would not otherwise know? I wanted Jake to dig into the Gurley injury but he didn’t have any follow up questions! Bloody amateur :)

Much worse ... and, much different.

If you really care, you may want to go back and find the threads. It was around the time Donald announced he was retiring. It would be a couple of the longer threads.

Ellenbogen pissed-off a lot of posters with multiple tease-posts about big news coming. For many, it created positive expectations. When it turned-out to be the hugely disappointing news that Donald was done, many posters were angry. Some were critical but others tried to explain to Jake that his posts created a positive expectaion that made the bad news even more disappointing.

Ellenbogen stood his ground with the detractors, and refused to engage those who tried to be constructive.
I remember that. To be fair, he can't exactly state if it's negative or positive at that time, as it would of lead to only one thing at the time, which would have been AD retiring. Saying something is "big news" isn't positive or negative and is up to the interpretation of the one reading it, thats not on Jake. What I took from it, is that he does have credible sources inside the organization, which makes him more credible with the things he may say or opinions he has regarding what he's hearing from his sources, which is good for the fans.

It was a classic troll job, he built up anticipation and misled (whether intentionally or not) the fan base. To gain what? Credibility? It was a self serving attempt to glorify himself and likely pulled the same nonsense on other sites. Then he doubled down by being dismissive and incredibly insulting. Fuck him, he's a hack

Love Whit, but no chance I can sit through that much of the host. He's pretty bad.

This was a great interview and Jake shows he still got it. He asked great questions and knew when to sit back and listen to Whit knowing what fans wanted to hear. He didn't make this about himself, but looked very prepared and knowledgeable.

Yeah I had clowned him with a funny star wars cartoon strip on the Donald fiasco, and stopped watching him for the season after he was whining at Whit on X with the "You never liked me" stuff - which I thought was unprofessional and below his standards - but he came out smelling like a rose here. I'm glad they're both still friends after all that drama, which began with Jake's critique of the Rams after letting Jones go.

Thank you my friend. I appreciate you bringing-up that ONE time.

Unfortunately, I subsequently discovered that I was wrong in thinking that I had been wrong about being wrong. So ultimately, I was indeed Right but it was about being Wrong.

I have to disagree. If an outsider like Jake Ellenbogen had the information about Donald, can you imagine the number of insiders and other connected people that also had it (like Jake).

Crickets. All those other people did the same ... Responsible ... thing. They sat on it. Jake chose not to.

Every time he posted about the up-coming 'Big News', there were numerous Excited and Hopeful responses.

Personally, I agree with the above response (at 8:19 AM) from @dieterbrock.

He claimed to have "inside information" (that he was required to keep quiet, according to his statements after the fact). I figured, if he knew the exact information he may not have led people on (as any intelligent person would not have done). Instead of "Big News Coming This Week" during the first wave of free agency, a better approach would have been "Big Changes Coming This Week". He wouldn't have disclosed anything and he wouldn't have built up the fanbase for a huge letdown. But I don't believe he really knew. He was probably told the same thing he told ROD (and others). Then got egg on his face because of the way he played it. And then, rather than coming clean.....'I didn't know exactly'.....which would have compromised his "insider" status.....he doubled down to keep his "insider image" alive ('I was required not to say anything'). Clearly, not the way to make friends.

Can you name one single talking head that does that? I’m not taking sides here and I think Jake is a bit of a dweeb (no more than many in his field), but it seems that a lot of people are hell bent on wanting him to burn.

Insiders and connected people hint at breaking news thats coming all the time, that's nothing new. I'm not gonna argue that he did it bc he wanted to prove he had credible sources and boost his name in the industry. You can agree with that approach or not, but if he had come out and said that he knew Aaron was gonna retire all along bc his sources told him, after the fact, no one would believe him.

As for people's reactions, again, if he had told people that it's not good news, everyone would have known what it was and he would have burned a source. It's like a kid who sees a huge present under the xmas tree and gets all excited bc they think it's one thing, then they open it and it's not what they expected, so they get mad at the parents.

It's old news and not really worth dragging on, and I already forgot why we're even talking about this. Lol
