Interesting stuff.

What I’d like to know is: if some blokes running a website can notice this trend, why can’t our highly-paid professional coaches and analysts?

Or maybe they have identified the problem but can’t do anything to improve matters?

Either way, some people aren’t doing their job very well.
I guarantee they see the problem. When a play by the opponent is successful, I believe they want to understand why and fix it, but situations and player's responsibilities and tendencies make it difficult to fix. The thing is on a Defense that is less talented than we would like, if they fix this, it might cause another weakness. Or maybe this stat is the result of covering up an earlier weakness.

The secondary played better the first half of the season I think. And briefly after Kendrick got his head on straight but that didn't last.

Basically I think the Rams conceded they needed more speed on the boundary and Durant does have the talent to do the job. Also the safeties should be able to focus in better. We don't need a top defense just a lowered incidence of explosive passes.

He's not the boundary CB. Spoon is.
I know that, and in part because you have pointed it out already. Was using the term to mean outside the hashes.

Point is I think there is room for us to see improved play outside the hashes overall by having some speed added. Having two guys on the outside with poor wheels is a hard thing to pull off in this league. Sooner or later you'll get draws where you get overrun.

Or maybe they're well aware of it, but think the tradeoff is worth it. Our run D has been pretty great this year if I'm not mistaken.

"Outside CB" would be the term for that.

It's only important because there is a difference and if Rams are going to play it this way, as opposed to earlier in the year it would matter in terms of draft. Rams could, and may be planning, using THT as the boundary CB next year. That's what he mostly was in college. Then for the field CB they can get more speed.

But they may go left and right again and they could more or less be mirrored.

Chris Long said it best. "Those corners scare me". And he did not mean it in a good way. By now there should not be so many blown coverages allowing big plays.

The front seven may not be anywhere near top ten, but they're serviceable. I'm guessing middle of the pack compared to the rest of the league. Its the back end where the problem is. Too many mistakes and too many PI's. Several in the endzone. We might be concerned about the kicking costing us but I'm just as concerned about the secondary.

I don't pretend to be a schematic wizard. Just a fan and an old bastard with a poor memory.

Re: Tomlinson I would like to see him utilized more. I don't doubt that he's been on the bench for a reason but that speed is very alluring right now. Sadly we'll probably have to wait for next year to see him.

Overall and strangely enough I like our younger corner options. I even like Kendrick though I don't think he is a long term answer. But what I think we need is a stud to take on the top draws. Then the rest of these guys can be moved around and tried here and there to find best combination.
