Hacksaw was my favorite player in the 70's and it crushed me when he went to the Niners. I'm still not over that.

As much as I loved him as a Ram, he is now, “the man whose name I do not speak.”

His 2 plays at the goal line helped the 9ers win their first SB and jump start years of misery for me, living in San Jose, CA.

Screw him.

Fred Strickland, sure wish the Rams had drafted Chris Spielman instead, but the Rams went with athleticism over desire.

I found that upsetting. Strickland over Spielman! And, I liked Fred Strickland!

I did not recall the Rams passing on Spielman to draft Strickland but I guess they technically did.

Checked the 1988 Draft. Chris Spielman went near the top of Round Two, at #29 overall. Strickland went later in that Round, at #47. However the Rams did have two mid-first round picks in '88 ... Gaston Green at #14, and Aaron Cox at #20. By-the-way, 1988 was a strong Draft.

The Ram's cheap ownership didn't want to pay (Reynolds)-- so they released him. Hacksaw went on to have five more good years with the 49ers.

The difference between Good NFL Ownership (willing to write the checks but stay out of football decisions) vs. Bad NFL ownership (unwilling to do one or both of the above) can mean everything when it comes to the success of a football team.

How many playoff games have the Dallas Cowboys won, since the late-‘90s when Jerry Jones decided he could be a good General Manager?

Actually I did not know that, I thought the Rams took Strickland before the Lions took Spielman so thank you for the clarification.
