I think Jones is the best fit, but I'm not sure there will be any cap room available for the position. That might bring some of the less talented guys on the list into play.

We know Woods can go deep, the Rams just haven't used him that way recently.

Woods can get deep when there is another deep threat that occupies a safety.

I'm not disagreeing with the assertion that Woods can get deep when there is another deep threat that occupies a safety.
But, that's not what happened on this play.

Sure, Sammy Watkins is occupying a safety on the opposite side of the field, but that's because there's a corner blitz, and the safety is covering the blitzer's man. It's not because of Sammy's speed.

There's 3 defenders on 2 receivers on Woods' side. Benoit says it's the Kupp-Woods route combo that makes it work.
Looking at it, the safety goes to double Kupp on the outside. I mean, it's not a speed guy that occupies a safety there because Kupp isn't a speed guy, and even if he was, that's not a deep route that the safety is doubling on, right?

The big thing on the play, imo, is the DB biting on Woods' quick step to the outside that gets the DB spun around.

I get that there are some fans out there that believe that adding a speed receiver, even one that sucks, is the panacea to unleash the Rams' offense. IMO, there's just so, so much more to it.

I've always thought Watkins was a fun player, especially when he was on his A game in Buffalo, but holy cow does his route on this play encapsulate his time in LA.

Yeah. It's hard to tell if he didn't know the play or just didn't care because the ball wasn't coming to him. Both were equally possible.

No Belgian Malinois are much more faster & love to bite! My boy DeaconView attachment 43624

I had a good friend who had one of those. Amazing dog. He loved me but Jim was always uncomfortable having Coda around kids. Jim got divorced and moved. He had to sell his dog. I don’t know how a person can do that, but I guess it worked out. Coda went to a good family.

I honestly feel we have a couple of deep threats on team already, Jefferson & Woods. McVay just did not draw up deep passes much last season because Goff really doesn't have much touch on the deep balls. Obviously, he has hit some in his career, but I bet his ratio is not good. Which is why he had the Wolf throwing deep as soon as he got in game. Its in the playbook and we have the players now to unleash it fully. I would not spend much more then minimum in FA for a WR and I don't think we should use the top 4 picks on one personally. We need a good OL and someone on the DL to create some kind of pressure much more then we need another WR. We also likely need a CB to fill a large void when Hill leaves. After those are filled, ok

Ya that sucks, mine is good around my kids including toddlers. He's crazy lol. Fun to train tho

Fun things to think & talk about during the off-season.
But reality is that the deep threat is already on the roster and we add a draft pick and/or super cheap vet to the WR corps (Unless we get crazy and trade one of Woods/Kupp).

I like the idea of moving Woods to that deep threat role and moving Jefferson into that Y role and Kupp owning the slot. I don't particularly think we need to ADD anyone via FA in that way.

I like some guys in the draft, but they'd be 50/50 high point guys versus speed guys.

FA WRs can be expensive and as big a crapshoot as a draft pick. Every year there are a couple of rookies who come out of the gates looking good and end up being pretty solid throughout their rookie contract.

If we want to upgrade our receiver corps, let’s draft the right guy.

Draft a WR and a Center. Offense ready to go. IMO. They will have a shot at a speedy weapon in round 2 IMO. They should also have some nice center options in round 3.

But either way you can find speed in the draft. I just hope whatever they do they stick to their board and add a guy you can feel on the field there in round 2. Impact player should be the goal IMO since the way this year has gone should favor teams with deep pockets and innovative approaches in evaluating talent. That should mean the Rams at least I would think.
Which rookie Center do you think is plug-and-play?

As I've said in other threads and some have said here already that I think Jefferson is going to be a break out star next season with Stafford throwing deep. VJ has speed that will be shown.

Also, Brycen Hopkins is another off the radar player that I hope will be displayed next season. He is a bigger, faster player than Jordan Reed and McVay loved using Reed in Washington. Would need to tighten up his catching ability though. Stafford has had a pretty good rapport with his TEs in Detroit so I wouldn't be surprised to see big years from Higbee, Hopkins, or both.
