I would add Whitworth to that list . He looks tired to me .

He is 98, he's allowed to be fatigued...

Joyner has been my biggest disappointment - he never seems to be "there", then as @kurtfaulk said he comes flying in from somewhere when the player has been stopped.

I think it's unfair to add Josh Reynolds to the list in needing to step up - he's been outstanding as a stand in for Kupp.

What I want to see improved is our Red Zone completion percentage, now I'm not sure who is to blame, Goff, the receivers, McVay - but this area needs to improve if we want to go deep in the playoffs, we've seen a few INTs in this area and far too many incompletions...

Whitworth is fine. No Qb holds the ball longer than Goff and some of the pressures from the Chiefs game looked Whitworths fault but were really Saffold. Watch the tape close and you will see Saffold failing to chip the rusher cutting inside.

Some times edge players like Justin Houston are going to get home because they are Pro Bowl level players that the Rams trust Whitworth to handle 1 on 1.

Ok, so once we clinche the division perhaps we start to sprinkle in some Noteboom! Give big Whit a rest and game time action for the youngster! If he’s deemed ready. Hate to see Goff get injured.
It is time to get both Noteboom & Allen a serious amount of snaps in place of Whitworth & Sullivan.

Goff stands not to get injured if he spends more of his time handing the Ball off to Gurley, Brown, Davis & Kelly or giving the jets sweeps a good work out with Cooper, Cooks, Woods & Nick Williams. I might add that a good amount of quick screens to Gerald Everett & Malcolm Brown would also be a good ideal.

I agree. There are no Orlando Paces out there these days. Even the better LT's are going to get beat sometimes. As long as he's holding his own the majority of the times.

One thing about being a LT, you can be great most the game but get beat a couple times and everyone sees it. Makes it look like he's having a bad day. As far as being tired, maybe the bye will re-energize him. And we likely have a first round bye in the playoffs too.

Of the 5 players mentioned:
- Suh stepped up but again needs to watch late hits on QBs
- Goff being off didn't help Reynolds cause
- Peters appeared to contribute to good WR coverage but his tackling is still atrocious .
- Barron and Joyner did not show well

Rams players who must step up in the final 5 games

The Los Angeles Rams have entered the final stretch before the postseason, facing a fairly easy five-game finish to the year. They’ll play the Lions on Sunday before taking on the Bears in Chicago the following week. A Sunday night showdown with the Eagles at home comes in Week 14, followed by the Cardinals and 49ers in the final two weeks.

The Rams have all but locked up a playoff berth and the NFC West, but they can’t get complacent in the last five weeks. They need to continue playing at a high level and have some of their other players step up in a big way.

NT Ndamukong Suh
It’s not that Suh has been bad this season, but in the past six weeks, he just hasn’t had a huge impact. Yes, he was great against the Seahawks with nine tackles, three quarterback hits and a half-sack, but excluding that game, he has nine tackles, two quarterback hits, no sacks and no tackles for loss in his last six starts.

Suh hasn’t recorded a tackle for loss since Week 5, which is also the last time he’s had a full sack. The Rams’ defense has been gashed on the ground and while you can’t pin that on one player, Suh is supposed to be that anchor in the middle making stops at or behind the line of scrimmage. He simply hasn’t done that enough in the past six games. He’s PFF’s 27th-ranks interior defender this season.

Buyer Beware: Which NFL Free Agents Should Teams Avoid This Offseason?

Age isn't always a sign of an upcoming downfall.

But it sure doesn't hurt to predict it with Ndamukong Suh, who just turned 32 years old Sunday after a ho-hum regular season with the Los Angeles Rams. You'd think Suh would have had a resurgence of sorts while opponents focused on 2017 Defensive Player of the year Aaron Donald, yet Suh was just another guy out there.

A report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk in mid-December even suggested the Rams made a move after realizing Suh's lack of production wasn't going to change: "Per a league source, the Rams made the trade for [Dante Fowler Jr.] because they quickly realized that defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh isn't the same guy that he was three years ago."

But this is the NFL, and teams aren't always making the wisest decisions no matter how obvious they may seem. One organization will pay up on his name alone.

Sacks aren't everything, but it's worth noting Suh hasn't hit the five-sack mark since 2016. He had hit five or more in six out of his first seven years in the league. While he hasn't been missing games, Suh isn't producing as much despite recently playing in ideal circumstances.

Suh has to step up during the playoffs. If not, Rams should go a different direction.

Sullivan. It's a long season and he's getting bull rushed and stomped by opposing DTs.

Suh has never played in a Divisional Round Playoff but did play a Wild Card matchup against the Cowboys back in 2014. Cowboys won 20–24.

It's my belief that Suh will have a very good game against the Cowboys this time.

I think Suh will play well in the playoffs because this probably his only chance that he will ever come to getting a superbowl. He was probably saving whatever he has left for this last push.

I think he's starring in a community theater production of The Smurfs.

my observation of joyner is him diving over wrs and rbs already tackled. he puts his shoulder out front then dives straight over them. always too little, too late.

He tries to lay a hit on someone rather than wrap up and tackle.

It's a huge mistake for a player that is undersized at his position.

Don't get me wrong, these guys have been the biggest reason our offense has done a 180 since the McVay hire.....but when these 5 are playing REALLY WELL, we can't be beat.

On defense it's simple...Suh and Brockers need to find that extra gear and get nasty.

Playoff games are won and lost in the trenches. Dallas, NO and Philly are all solid in the trenches.

These are the Rams I think need to step up:

1. Suh - this guy has been a shell of himself. He's decent but not what he was. He needs to find it.

2. Ebukam - Disappeared after the KC game...where I thought the light came on for him.

3. Barron - Just not who he was before the injury. Would be GREAT to him in that mode.

Brockers has stepped it up lately so I'll leave him be.

IT'S PLAYOFF TIME!!!

Unfortunately that’s true for too many defenders today. That’s the one thing that drives my dad up the wall is dudes going for the highlight hit instead of a fundamentally sound tackle. :banghead: Drives him absolutely nuts.

A healthy Talib is critical to Rams’ postseason success
BY BEN LINSEY

USATSI_11819979.jpg

Quinn Harris-USA TODAY Sports

Aqib Talib has proven himself to be one of the top cornerbacks in the league over recent seasons. Since the start of 2016, he is tied for the fourth-highest defensive grade among all cornerbacks with A.J. Bouye.

Over that time, he has allowed a passer rating of just 67.2 on passes into his coverage, ranking third-best among the 111 cornerbacks who have seen at least 100 targets over that span, while his forced incompletion rate over the last three seasons of 19.6% ranks 11th among the same group. Needless to say, Talib is an impact player on the perimeter of any secondary.

That certainly holds true for the Los Angeles Rams this season. Talib missed eight games after undergoing ankle surgery following an injury in their cross-city matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. With Talib on the field, the Rams have boasted one of the better secondaries in the league. With him on injured reserve, they were beaten often and beaten badly on the back end.

The team defensive statistics that show just that are pretty remarkable. In the games in which Talib started in weeks 1-3 and 13-17, the Rams pass defense surrendered a passer rating of 74.5 (third-best in the NFL) and 10.4 yards per reception (seventh-best). In those games, they allowed eight touchdown passes while intercepting 12 passes which was the best ratio in the NFL over those eight weeks.

RamsWithTalib-1024x576.png

Contrasting those numbers with the eight games in which he was sidelined from weeks 4-12 shows just how vital he is to the secondary. Across those eight games, the Rams allowed a passer rating of 111.6 (third-worst in the league) while allowing fewer yards per completion than only the Oakland Raiders (13.2 yards per reception).

In particular, they struggled with the big play. Over that span, no team gave up more completions 20 or more yards downfield (22) or passing yards on throws 20 or more yards downfield (819) than the Rams did. They were the only team to allow over 700 deep passing yards in those nine weeks.

Obviously, Talib himself has played a large role in that with his own play, ranking among the top 20 cornerbacks in the NFL in terms of overall grade this season. His effect goes beyond that, though. His presence on the field has resulted in improved play across the secondary. Perhaps the player happiest to have a healthy Talib back is his fellow outside cornerback, Marcus Peters.

With Talib in the lineup, some of the pressure has been taken off Peters to be the guy in the secondary, and it has shown in his overall grade. In games in which Talib has started this season, Peters has an overall grade of 78.5 which ranks 17th out of 118 qualifiers at the position across those weeks. In the games that Talib sat, his grade dropped all the way to 44.9 which was fifth-worst at the position.

So not only have the Rams gotten one of the top cornerbacks in the league back for the postseason, but the mere presence of Talib on the field has seemingly elevated the play of their other big secondary acquisition in Peters.

For the Rams to deliver on the Super Bowl expectations that have been placed on them throughout the year, their defense will have to play up to the level of the defensive talent that they aggressively acquired. Aqib Talib is one of those critical pieces, and if this season is anything to go by, him being healthy for the playoffs is an excellent sign for the Rams.

Well Suh signed with the Rams at a discount in order to chase that ring, right? Well, now's the time for that!
