He's a good DT there's no denying it. But they basically exchanged Hendrickson and the 10th pick for him. I include Hendrickson because they wouldn't pay him now they have to pay a DT instead of an edge. Hard to think the Bengals have improved with this offseason so far.

They overpayed... but it wasn't by a crazy amount.

2013 ass draft.

Idk, Lawrence was not great last year. Maybe a new team will motivate him more but that's a huge risk for a draft pick that could have got them a really cheap (compared to Lawrence) and likely good player.

Yeah that's the weird part... and I think Lawrence is wanting a new contract too. Just horrible mismanagement on Cincy's part... course that's not a big surprise from one of the worst managed teams in the NFL.

Buying the dip is the way to go with trades and free agents - I'd rather take a stud with a down year than an average guy who had one good year (this is more free agency in general).

Lawrence is great and had a down year. I think they overpayed but not by a crazy amount in a bad draft. And Hendricks is on the down end of his career so keeping him or even paying him a new contract last year or so would have been a mistake. They SHOULD have traded him and taken their lumps 2-3 years ago. There's definitely mismanagement there but this honestly speaks to one of the better things they've done lately.

Us fans are underestimating how weak teams feel this draft is. In a normal year, a team wouldn't trade a top 10 pick for a 29 year old DT.

This isn't a normal year.
And it kind of redistributes positional values as well. DTs up, WRs down, for example.

That is a terrible trade for Cincy. Holy shit. Lawrence has been great but he’s gonna be 30 and might have some good years left but is past his prime years. wtf? Maybe for a late round 1st would be ok for a team in win now mode but Cincy has a lot of holes and not sure this really moves the needle on the worst defense in the NFL.

Tangent: Lawrence looks like Bunk on The Wire.

Maybe should have gone to Baltimore ...

Yeah I don't like it at all for Cincy. But not surprised.

Meanwhile looks like NYG are on the upswing now with a coach who understands a top end talent who isn't accountable isn't worth the effort. They're far better off taking one of the NTs in this draft and replacing him on the cheap. And their locker room is better for it.
