How many great QBs win consistently without a "great team" around them?
Off the top of my head, Marino is the only one I can think of.
I believe he’s the outlier, not the rule.

When teams ran much more, he had what? IIRC, only once did the fish produce a 1000 yard rusher for Marino.

The defense had a couple good seasons but there were years Marino had to put those teams on his back and score a lot of points. One year he threw 5 TD passes in both games vs the jets…and lost both games.

I didn’t see it so much at the time. Maybe because it was so automatic, maybe because he had a couple dynamite WRs, but having watched so much more football and seeing the evolution of the passing game (thanks GSOT), I have devoloped a lot more appreciation for Dan Marino and what he accomplished.

So to your point, the answer is it takes an all time great. Not too common.

Not familiar with him......what do you like about his game?

Wicks's game has been compared a lot to a younger Adams (smooth route runner, good body control, good, not great athlete). Wasn't drafted highly (5th) but carved out a pretty big role on the Packers. Lost a lot of snaps to Golden and Savion Williams and wasn't in their further plans.

I was hoping that the Rams could get him for a 2027 fourth. Now the fucking Eagles have their Brown replacement. :(

If you're saying Purdy without a great team is around the 15th best starter in the league than I agree.
This times 1000 - can't emphasize it enough.

And that's how I feel Simpson will be when he comes out.

He will be around the 16th best QB without a great team.

But on the Rams he will be top 10, just like Purdy is top 10 as a 49er and Darnold is top 10 now as a Seahawk. I'm thinking that this is the only valid equation regarding Simpson as it relates to US, not how good he would be if he were on the Cardinals or Jets.

OMG - I am only giving Purdy as an example of a game manager QB with a great team who went to the superbowl.

Stop reading too much into my comment.

Dilfer was another game manager QB who went to the superbowl with a great team.

Once the great team was gone - Dilfer was just a so so QB.
Not sure how many times I have to say I disagree with your assessment of Simpson before you get it.

Yeah I saw that coming.
They told him what he wanted to hear to get him to be a Jaguar but knew it's unrealistic.

"Get him to be a Jaguar?" Was Hunter a rare College Free Agent, and had a say in what team he would join, or was he a collegian with ZERO say in the matter? I'm confused....
