I still like Forbes. I don’t think he’s a #1, but McDuffie has that job now, and he’s still a very fast man-coverage corner with excellent ball skills.
I'm with you. The guy was tied for 2nd in the league for most passes defensed, and this despite having a chunk of games where he played like crap. You can't have that type of production without excellent ball skills.

Cowboys just gave Aubrey a 2nd Round Tender, meaning they can still match any offer but if they don't they will receive a 2nd round pick. Does anyone think we should delve into these waters. Get ourselves a great place kicker capable of hitting from most places on the field in exchange for the huge expense of a 2nd rounder?
Yes. I like Mevis a lot. But Aubrey is easily worth a 2nd rounder IMO. Particularly a late 2nd. He can hit from almost anywhere on the field consistently. A kicker of his caliber is a huge weapon. I don't think most teams would bat an eye at drafting a kicker in round 2, if they could somehow guarantee he'd turn out to be another Aubrey. I cannot see the Cowboys letting him leave the building. They'll match anything that is within the realm of reasonable.

I am kind of thinking this myself but maybe was afraid of being attacked by the vultures, LOL.

Anyway I can clearly see both sides of the argument, 2nd round picks are precious tender not to be trifled with. But this guy might be worth it. Had Mevis made that kick in Seattle in December we might have won the Super Bowl.

I could care less about Forbes. I don't think he's got enough dog in him. So he's fine for depth but I could take him or leave him.
Yeah he's right on the border for me. Dunno if I want to depend on him to start.

My opinion...

McDuffie - CB1
Forbes - CB2, for now
Lake - Slot/Star
Wallace - depth slot/star

I think we pick up a mid tier vet free agent. I see us drafting another one too but right now I'm leaning towards it being not at 13. Which means maybe the later drafted CB or mid tier free agent move Forbes to the bench, maybe they don't.

As of right now though I think Forbes will end up being CB2.
That's a good projection. I'm stuck between wanting to maximize our defense or if Mcduffie is enough of a high end addition.

I'm leaning towards the latter. When the Rams had Ramsey, they didn't try to stack the room with two top end talents. Having CB1 allowed them to tilt coverage to the other side.

My guess is they take the same approach here. My hesitancy though is they may be making schematic changes so may take a different approach this time.

I think we're on the same page (thanks for the detailed response by the way) but is Forbes cb3 as in reserve or do we use Mcduffie as a boundary guy who moves inside sometimes and then add another slot corner while keeping Forbes on the field, in your opinion?
I think McDuffie will play boundary CB for us (which is what Forbes plays - not ideal for him) so what we really need is a field CB. A guy who can run all over the field. Forbe's skill set prob doesn't lend itself to field so he automatically gets relegated to backup but since McDuffie will probably move inside in dime Forbes may still get a decent amount of play.

Just gotta find a field CB. Durant can do it if we resign him but would like an upgrade.

I see this happening as well. That vet incoming may not even occur until after the draft. A guy who is cut post FA/draft. Quality depending on when we draft a CB - at 13, a much lesser guy or maybe not at all. In 3rd round, maybe a better quality guy (maybe even a 2027 late round trade for a mid vet) if they think the guy needs more time to develop. Lots of options right now, which is an excellent position to be in.

I think Delane, if there, would be tough to pass on. Would have a great mentor in McDuffie.

McCoy's injury status, if cloudy, makes him a pass. With fewer picks, can't afford to take a risky guy early.

So to me its Delane, or offense with Lemon or Tyson/Tate if one were to fall there. Or trade back for more picks.

Guessing Styles, Reese, Baily, & Baine are gone.

One WC, as someone else mentioned, do you grab one of the best OGs to come out over the last several years and take Ioane? Not glamorous, but a great pick for the future. Saves future cap space if you decide to move on from Dotson or Avila next year. Also gives you great depth this year.

2nd rounder plus the $10 mil Aubrey’s demanding. That would almost double Butker salary, who’s the top paid kicker.

Yes. Still possibly worth it. Kickers win Championships. Brandon Aubrey's a Ram in 2025......???? Think, at Philly, at Seattle. Aubrey's a Ram we have HFA.

Also, we wouldn't have to even THINK about Kicker position for 3 years MINIMUM. Thats valuable.

He turned down 10 mill per year

He did not actually turn down 10 Million per year, he's ASKING for 10 Million per year.

The Cowboys offered to make him the highest paid kicker, surpassing Butker at 6.4. But Dallas has gone nowhere near 10 million in its offers.
Mevis hit 51/52 kicks last year and will cost only 1 mill
Any team that is willing to pay 10 mill for a kicker is nuts

I can definitely see that side of the argument but Mevis is far from a guaranteed sure thing over the next 3 years like Aubrey is. Remember, at this time last year we were all happy having Josh Karty and figured the position was solved for the upcoming next few years. Mavis is far from a bona fide sure thing right now. Look at it this way, Aubrey can take Tutu's money.

Also, Mevis is only 23 years old whereas Aubrey is already 30. Kickers can usually play for a long time so this probably isn't the biggest deal in the world. But for whatever reason, I just like the idea of having a younger guy who can hopefully develop into a long term option for us rather than a guy who could theoretically start falling off in the upcoming years.

Just adding this clip on Ioane. Dude is a beast.
