You are either being obtuse on purpose or you think these guys are operating in an environment where they don't have to be flexible, nor do they have to tweak their plans or their approach to address their needs.

They were facing two issues. Finding their future QB and adding immediate impact to get them over the hump this year.

They couldn't work out a trade prior to the draft for Garrett, mostly because Cleveland wasn't going to trade him until June 1st due to cap implications. The sane with AJ Brown. So then knowing that, they had to look at the 26' and 27' drafts as their best opportunity to find a top QB prospect.

Of course by draft night, the understanding that any trade for Garrett or AJ Brown, or Max Crosby, would have to include a 27' first rd pick. So taking Simpson solved problem 1 in their mind. It helped tgat they reportedly really liked him and identified him early.

Thus leaving problem 2 to being addressed with the future draft capital that was now no longer required to draft Stafford's heir apparent. Of course then that's exactly what they did.

It's a pretty basic strategy just looking at the situation. Snead then made the comments above after the draft about getting the QB now, and freeing up future draft capital.

Tell me you didn't watch the video without telling me that.... insults tend to come when like a hot and ready Lil Caesars pizza when frustrated folks can't seem to back up things presented as facts and someone challenges that. I provided direct quotes from Les Snead showing how bad he wanted Garrett but yet somehow there's this thought that he'd stop instantly because he can only do so if he drafted Ty Simpson. If you show me something factual showing this, I'll gladly admit I was wrong.

They were talking 2 yrs ago apparently, but it became obvious, after they tweaked his contract, that any trade would happen after June 1st.

And regardless, a trade didn't happen by the time pick 13 went on the clock. So at that point they took Simpson, which still allowed them to shop their future #1 for an impact player for this year, whether Garrett, AJ, or Crosby. They were big name hunting to get an impact player for Stafford's potential last year.

Had Cleveland taken pick 13 and a future #2, then the Rams would still have the 27' first rd pick for a QB. That would have accomplished their plan as well. Impact player, and resources to get a young QB prospect.

This shouldn't be that hard to understand.

Yup still having a hard time proving that we wouldn't have sniffed or tried to trade for Garrett after chasing him for years because of Simpson. Yup, makes a lot of sense

Kinda isn't saying much. I almost kinda won the lotto the other day too man hahahaha...... I'm not going to ask you to show me proof as I've said it a million times already. People are interpreting things into what they wanna believe and that's cool, I just don't. That last part, "It wasn't like the pick made it a done deal" is exactly what I'm talking about. Snead wanted Garrett really bad and we all know that man is aggressive when pursuing players so to me, for him to say, "woah, I wouldn't have done that if we hadn't drafted Simpson" is silly. Snead would have found a way to add Garrett because Garrett is just such a game changer.

Will Simpson prove to be the answer? We hope that the scouting department has done it's job and found a gem.

But, the likelihood of finding that QB outside of the 1st round or via a trade without the necessary assets to make a deal for one is FAR less likely.
