I think it does. As much for Smith as for the team. I don't think he returns kicks next year. Maybe I'm overreacting... but I think the emotional impact of him muffing another punt could be bad for a locker room. That was a catastrophic and unforced error at a key moment.. those things can stick.

But, I think the kid has legitimate value as a WR now, so he stays.
You could be right. The Rams have done nothing at this point to even bring in someone to compete though.

Very true.
I think they could simply be playing the "ball security and better blocking" angle for returns... and, boy, do they need improvement on both returns and kick coverage. Outside of the secondary, that's the biggest area that this team could improve.

Am I off in thinking a big improvement in coverage and ball security in returns would be the biggest area for possible improvement on this team?

LA RAMS:

This is the list I found a little bit ago. Typically grows as the day moves on.

I think you're spot on. I feel like half of all our big returns always get called back by flags.

I think we are at 86 or 87 players on the 90 man roster with the UDFA additions.

More UDFAs to come? Or more via Free Agency/Trade?

They traditionally go all the way to the 90, so I'm expecting more one way or the other ...

Last I looked it was 10 udfa and 5 picks so that puts us at 79 IIRC

I swear it's like the Tutu experience made McVay swear off all fast WRs even if they're actually the size of an NFL player.

I get all these picks, and I like them - but a WR that can stretch the field and return kicks seems like it would have been ideal. I guess that's going to be X man
The lack of speed on this team is also why the coverage teams aren't so hot

Right on haven't seen or actually looked for I guess an updated list.
I posted the 18 names that have been reported.
It's post #87, on the previous page of this thread if you are interested.

Until these guys sign contracts, it's not final; and it's not uncommon for a couple players to change their minds and sign elsewhere ... so, I take the initial reports with a grain-of-salt.
