Looks like we are catching the Giants at the right time in week 2. I like their off-season moves and Harbaugh will make them more competitive instantly but players might still be adjusting to his system in week 2, if Nabers isn't playing yet that is another big advantage, they've had other key injuries, etc. Lots of the "bad" teams on our schedule this year look to be much better in2026-27 to my eye. NYG. Vegas. Arizona. That we get them all relatively early is nice. The "good" teams will be challenging no mater when you play them.

I had a hernia sprint training at age 23. I've never been the same athletically since. Not that I have reasons to do so anymore, but if I was to sprint 110% today in my 30s, we are talking giving it my 100% all, I would not feel comfortable doing it. Haven't felt truly "stable" since. I think something would pop or sprain if I tried to crank it that hard. When doing cardio today for general fitness, even when mixing in some faster speeds, I keep it about 75-80% speed tops where I feel nice and comfortable physically during the movement. Granted, I was never a high level athlete. He will have top notch rehab staff available 24/7. And clearly has better genetics than I have, LOL! But I wouldn't down-play a hernia. Those can really leave a lasting impact. Glad we didn't draft him if he had this. I seem to recall Tavon Austin suffered one too, and at least to the eye test, he never looked quite the same after, as well? Tavon's was also "minor".

Oh come on, lets not start this knee thing this early. Young was suffering last half of last season with a knee.

Yeah, he is a concern with that knee. That's obviously the main reason why he won't be back next year if it continues to be an issue.

They may try to pick up a vet edge who gets cut in camp or take a few more swings on young guys on teams PS's if their UDFA's dont show anything.

Young looked completely ineffective trying to play through his knee injury last year. Not good news. We need Josiah Stewart to take the next step, and on top of that, I'd like to see a rotational veteran signed. We need depth, as Young is high risk to end up on IR. I would not re-sign him as he is older already as well. Love the player though.

So he’s ineffective, injured and old. Other than that he’s good to go?

I have concerns about Byron Young's knee ... same as with Jackson's blood clots; and I am guessing he is not currently a strong candidate for a contract extension but I think he has been a quality all-around-Edge from Day One.

Young has been durable (has not missed a game in three seasons) and productive (27 sacks, including 12 last season ... 12 is Verse's two year total).

As for the obvious decline in Young's play down-the-stretch last year, I give him credit for playing hurt. Sometimes, fans want a guy to play hurt but then are disappointed when he does not play well as well.

Let's hope Young is ready to go once the season starts.

My guess is that Young will be good to go when the regular season starts and I look for him to have a big year with a contract extension looming.
