I think the answer to that is yes. Also it has been that way with McVay's offense from the beginning.

His first draft he took Everett (6'2" TE) and Kupp (6'2" WR) for the slot role. Everett couldn't live up to it. Kupp excelled in it. They use the term "big slot" now for those types, but in the end a slot's a slot whether you're a TE or a WR or even a small hybrid RB source position. Key is having the ability to survive across the middle, separate, and be smart enough to handle option routes etc.
I agree with everything you posted. I would add, though, that McVay seems to be locked into the big-bodied slots so they can also be extensions of the run game. He directly stated the TE being a run game extension in his press conference yesterday. Personally, I would like the small, explosive type, but I get why McVay prefers the bigger type.

This is where the rubber meets the road! It is IMO what has delayed TE development like Ferg edit: although he is probaby on schedule in reality as the team hopes for the best but knows it is likely a season before they get up to speed.
The TE role in our offense is highly demanding physically and mentally

I have recently rewatched the 3 2025 preseason gms. they reassured me of the good ability of reserve QB Stetson Bennett. I have no concerns with Bennett as our back up QB. I would suggest anyone who has worries needs to spend some time & watch those games.

I very much agree.
Unfortunately, you and I are in the minority.

But hopefully we won't have to find out for quite some time.

And the fourth and fifth round picks this year. Even with all that draft capital given up, I'd say McDuffie will be better than any player picked at those slots.
Yes still a great trade, just clarifying that it was not simply, 29 for McDuffie. That is a "for now" draft pick at 29 that everyone was clamoring for at 13. I bet we make a deal later on in offseason or in-season in which we sacrifice 2027 Draft Capital for 2026 Super Bowl Stafford run. Think, Von Miller trade.

Yeah that's a whole conversation in itself too. Meaning you also have Stafford, who doesn't seem to see the smaller targets very well. And it's not like McVay is a massive run game proponent (he talks it up but goddamn he abandons it quickly), though I do agree with what you're saying that the size is preferred for that reason.

I'd be happy with Brian Thomas Jr. for a 2027 second. I'd rather keep our draft capital for 2027 otherwise; don't see many players I'd like to part with our first in such a strong class.

Well, speaking of whole conversations, we can have one on McVay pertaining to the run game. It appears to me that he's a massive run game proponent in the theoretical, innovative phase, but with live bullets flying, he seems to revert to instincts to pass.

IMO, (and no one kill me for this), McVay is much stronger in the innovative phase, where we currently are, than in the live, playcalling phase.

It’s exciting to have a young QB to be excited about. There’s a lot to like about Simpson. I assumed the Rams were leaning toward a more “proven QB” model as Stafford’s successor. A rookie is a real gamble. We have to play him to find out what he’s got. That could be bumpy. It could also be electric.

I wanted an offensive weapon at #13… someone who helps this year’s team.

I don’t think Lemon was a Rams-type guy. Sadiq was probably viewed as raw. Cooper and Concepcion felt like fringe 1st-rounders. But still, I wanted someone for the 2026 team. So yeah, Simpson leaves me a little empty.

That said… Simpson could see the field sooner than people think. Stafford is tough, but he’s not getting sturdier with age. If this is a Super Bowl team, there’s a version of this story where we look back and call this pick genius.

How much time is “enough” before you have to play Simpson if Stafford misses time? This could get wild.

Now I’m wondering if an A.J. Brown or Brandon Aiyuk-type move shows up—FA or trade. WR still feels thin, and we’re basically out of meaningful draft capital.

I’m liking Klare dreaming of 13 Personnel overdose, but is he going to play a lot in 2026?
Do not be so quick to underscore the development of WRs like Mumpfield, Whittington, and even Xavier Smith.

Mumpfield really impressed Tae, which is saying a lot given Tae's experience. Whittington is approaching his third season. It was hoped he would break out Lady season, but some guys take a while. Xavier has been regarded as primarily a returner until Lady season where he actually fielded some live catches. He may be a tick slower than Tutu, but he will seem just as fast to most DBs.

The Bengals were sold on Simpson. So the Rams took the Bengals by the paws on this one. In two years Simpson will be a Bengal and Joey B will be in horns. Don't wake me up......

I alluded to this possible deal down the road earlier in this thread.

5th and 6th ... not a 4th (that went to Chicago last year)

I think our 2026 #4 to Chicago (we also included a 2025 #6) was to get back the 5th round pick that we used to select Ty Hamilton.

I think Ty Hamilton has more potential than we might think. Solid rotational run-stopper along with Tyler Davis. I just wonder if we're going to select any defensive players for the D-line, since Desjuan Johnson is now an edge rusher.

If this is the end of the draft (barring a late trade into the seventh), I'm actually quite happy with how it turned out.

Still a lot of very talented UDFAs out there as well.

Biggest dissapointment, or I should say one of the the things that they didnt improve was speed on STs. Whether its coverage or on returns, no one will impact STs ftom this class.

Now, they still have college FAs to sign. Maybe they can add a DB or two that can stick or a LB. Or maybe add a return threat who could eventually get on the field this season. Also, camp cuts might help there when the time comes.
