That is an interesting situation. Things look like they are setting up for a rookie contract under Center so the Rams can sign as much of that defensive talent (plus Nacua) as they can.

But the window is wide open as long as Stafford is playing like this. I would just kick the can down the road and try to get another title or two—sign as many of these guys as you can.

We go through purgatory for a season or two like we did after the ‘21 season. I can live with that.
I agree. QBs like this don't grow on trees.

What a difference a year and good linebackers makes.

Those are impressive numbers.

Here's some more to think about. They've held opponents to under 10 points in 3 of 7 games. That matches their total from last year's schedule. But last year they occurred in the last 4 games. So in the last 11 games, this D has held opponents under 10 six times. Throw in the postseason last year and it's 7 of 13. FWIW, from 2021 to 2023 it occurred twice. Once each in 2021 and 2023.

The defense has a high ceiling but the shitters and iggles averaged about 30 points against this defense also

Poor blocking by middle OL on XP and FG. Not all on Karty. Letting Opposing D get their hands up, jumping in the air to block is unexcuseable. If the OL are doing their job right those D guys should be engaged enough that they can't get leverage and penetration. ST not doing a very good job.
I've gone back and watched, long snapper and guards getting over whelmed.
Couldn't see who's playing guard Rams need to find bigger people.
I agree. Ward at Long Snapper is small and being overwhelmed. Limmer helped blow another. Karty has only missed 2 FGs on his own.

Highest variance position year to year in football.

Skill-wise both Durant and Forbes are probably best served in man usage, of course neither have any ball awareness whatsoever (they both try to faceguard instead of getting their heads around) but physically they can both play that sticky style.

That said Durant has clearly improved a great deal in his zone work. Problem is the general lack of anticipation and awareness for both in zone. Neither really deduce and jump routes. Both are weak tacklers. So it's completion after completion, surrendering yards, with no punishment of QBs. And offenses like SF will wear them down.

It is possible both those guys end up losing snaps down the stretch as a result, once Spoon comes back. Because then you have three corners who are not liabilities in tackling (Spoon, McCreary, and Williams) who can sit back behind the rush, come up and make quick tackles, maybe break up the occasional pass, and help this defense get more stops instead of surrendering yards until the field shrinks.

And on top of that we have a large safety who's been holding it down in the slot. So the aforementioned three are competing for two roles, and even the dime role has more competition. And that competition should push production in a good direction.

Sure sounds like McCreary will get most play in the slot with Lake playing more safety (strong who rotates into slot when slot receiver motions) and both being on field inside in Dime package (which I think we play highest in the league).

Did McVay say that. I haven't been watching Rams vids of late. It would surprise me too, if they fuck with Lake in that slot role way he's been playing.

The new guy - Nate at the Athletic - was speculating on this and Lake seemed to back it up in an interview with how he's used in the strong safety/slot rotation during WR motion (sounds like they may want more of this than just Lake statically playing slot). It seems like McCreary is more about unlocking the Dime package which they already use at a league high than playing outside though I don't doubt he may get some use there.

That being said - this Nate guy may grow into the job - but he's not even a 10th of what Jourdan was offering so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.

They know the 9ers...they just cant spot them 17 points like they did at SOFI. THAT'S THE MAIN THING!!!

Well IMO Mac Jones is playing SO well.He just keeps slinging it around. His WR are making some tough catches.
Against The Rams he was like the terminator. You could kill him off.He wouldn’t go away & just when I thought he was done he was back on the field.
The Rams were playing from behind & just took awhile to get into a flow.
The thing about Mac Jones is he is getting the ball out faster than any QB in the NFL !

-E Forbes might be the key to the game on defense. The Rams will stop the run.Q.Lake is playing well.
I wonder if Roger McCreary gets a chance to play ? This seems fitting for him. D.Williams might be a GO ?
Forbes I think earned the start.

There TE looks beat up,SO Kittle can’t be a factor.

Not to pee on today's vibes... It was not, in any way, an overwhelming defensive performance. They are going to have to bring it WAAAAAY harder next week to beat the Seahawks.

That's gonna be a hell of a game.
Actually it was a great game. The Whiners didn't run all over us and we beat Shanahan and his offense. Held CMC to 3 ypc or less. Celebrate a win we don't usually get IMO.

That's why I didn't put it in the celebration thread.

Acknowledging what you point out.. I'm still a little concerned.

The good news? Seattle's passing game wasn't great today. Let's keep that going.
