If that QB has not begun to impress you by year 2 then you probably missed on the pick. So that's fine. A full year to include two training camps should be all the time any QB needs to have a full grasp of the offense and also some hero moments in that opposing QB role in practice.
The 5th year contract is a fully guaranteed 24+ mill deal, you're not guaranteeing that kind of money without seeing play on the field, no matter how good someone looks in practice.
I disagree. Mahomes looked so good in practice that the Chiefs traded the QB ahead of him on the roster. I trust the Rams ability to evaluate outside of play on the field.
