I'm going to disagree there. He'll be drafted in the top 10 at worst. Not saying that's what I'd do but I could see a team taking a chance on him.

Man that face paste of Rodgers makes me not wanna draft him at all lol. McCord isn't a 1st round talent to me at all. I think he'd be a great developmental QB and at worst a solid young backup if he doesn't fully pan out. I think as long as he sits behind a savy vet and legit offensive staff, he'll turn out solid.

I agree with this 100%. Historically, when have the Rams won big? When they have a worthy quarterback (e.g. Ferragamo, Everett, Warner, Goff, etc.). At the moment we have a worthy quarterback in Stafford. Rams should take advantage of this precious moment and stack the rest of the roster as much as possible...RIGHT NOW! Don't sacrifice the present for the future, not with Stafford still at the helm.

Can you imagine how we will all feel about the Rams if they pull off a great draft? I mean, I know we are all feeling pretty dang good about the team at this moment of the off-season. I for one do not want to waste a shot at another super bowl now, for some whatever qb in the future. Let's deal with qb "in the future", and not spoil this moment. Go get a couple more studs in the draft and let's get the 2025 season started already!

I like McCord, but he might not be around at #90. I guess that would be the idea behind taking him there. As long as he becomes the next starting QB in a year or two, all will be well.

Yeah we all have our takes on this and that's fine. I'll just say again that the league has changed permanently due to the cost of QB salaries. If you think a QB has a reasonable chance to be a starter then taking him late round 1 means you get a 5th year option. Which currently is worth like $50M in straight value, minus whatever the rookie scale pays him in that 5th year. That's a lot of cheddar and chances are in 5 years it will be worth more than $50M.

So again what I think is going on here is we are witnessing a change of reality with draft picks and QBs. Teams have been reaching on the position for years. But what is coming I think is an acceptance that reaching late first means you get a fifth year of control and monetarily assuming that QB has a chance to hit it is an investment that will pay off down the road.

And it's hard to be a GM who refuses to accept that type of mentality. Because if you are that GM you will never draft a QB who is worth a shit. Because all the ones teams project to have a chance to start will be gone by the time your pick comes around that you think has value at the position.

Yep. Hate to say it but the media will tell you that Sanders is a legit first round choice but he's a fucking huge project because he wasn't challenged to do fuck all other than short shitty dump passes. Meanwhile you got a guy like McCord who has the arm and legitimately reads defenses and distributes the ball accurately vs good defenses and drops fucking dimes out there, but hey he's not first round material.

Sanders OC and former NFL OC Pat Shurmur didn't include NFL concepts in his offense?

And does so-called 1st round material really matter if most, if not all, draftnik professionals who actually talk to NFL teams say that there are only 12-15 so-called 1st round talents in the entire draft class at all positions?

Talent is important, but so is coaching and getting these kids matched up with the right offensive mind and not having them thrust into starting roles from day one when they are not ready. Of course that shouldn't be the case with the Rams.

I wouldn't go that far in saying that there are no starters. Who knew Verse would be all world for us? Who knew Puka would rank amongst the top WRs? Our front office has been on fire lately. With that said, our CBs are essentially just adequate enough but extremely replaceable. The slot WR is definitely open for snaps. I'm excited to see what they end up ultimately doing to strengthen our roster.

As much as I get that logic, I still think its trumped by the small window the Rams have to take advantage of winning another ring with Stafford at the helm. This is why I believe they'll address QB later in the draft. I'm extremely interested to see what McVay is drawn to for a development QB prospect in this class.

Hmmm, I just don't see it unfortunately. I just think there are other positions we can draft early that would better impact our team and improve our overall chances of winning a Superbowl vs "development QB". We'll all find out soon enough though because no matter what anyone thinks, the Rams are going to pick who they like. Besides, there's also no way to know what teams may take chances on certain players if they place positional value over BPA. I personally hope there are a few questionable picks early on so the Rams have more choices when their turn comes up lol

What you're describing happens every year where a prospect is overlooked amd some team gets a bargain. The key is to hit on players like that later in the draft. I know you keep touting 5th year option but what is also extremely valuable is hitting on later picks that get paid peanuts compared to those 1st rounders. Best example right now for that is someone like Puka. That cheap ass contract of his allowed us to go after an Adams without having too much cap invested into that position. It's why the bitch ass Whiners were able to afford so many players with Purdy making doo doo. Regardless, I'll say if the Rams somehow find their next QB, that is one position where its ultimately worth it to pay the money for a legit ass one even with their contracts getting out of hand.

I know you were going more in depth but no worries if you don't feel like discussing it further. Honestly I enjoy reading your posts as they are typically well thought out so thank you for putting it out there. Not saying this about you at all but about me....I sometimes stop myself from trying to go too in depth on some stuff because I'm simply being a lazy ass hahahaha

I mean, the opportunity cost is losing the 5th year option on another player, perhaps a better player.

I think the idea of getting a 5th year on a QB is oversold when you stop looking at it in a vacuum.

Teams seem just as likely willing to wait for a guy at the top of the 2nd and drafting them there. It seems the desire to take one late in round one tends to have more to do with liking the QB at that spot or worrying that they won't make it to one's pick in the 2nd.

And tangentially related, teams will often start trying to trade for a guy they want at various spots, sometimes in the first and only culminating the trade in the 2nd cause they won't go over a certain price point.
