I think "much better than Limmer" should be replaced with "slightly better than Limmer at this point in their careers".
I'd be interested to see what his stats were in the last 4 games or so. He started in place of the Jonah / Avila Center experiment, literally thrown into the fire. iirc Shelton was a disaster, hence he's not on the team now.
I've been banging the table for years now for the Rams to get themselves a quality Center. Either thru draft or FA. We were 14 yards away & this poor rookie makes a rookie mistake, and if not we trounce the Commodes on our way to another SB appearance. Shelton isn't going to get us there, and if Limmer can't beat him out, I don't see us getting back to the SB. When you're one of 2 teams left standing, you cannot have a glaring weakness on your OL or it will get exploited. You can do things to over-compensate for this, but that just makes you more predictable as an offense.
However... I suspect Limmer does beat him out. I think he improved quite a bit over the last 4 reg season games or so, but I'd have to see the stats.

From PFF:
Beaux Limmer Pass blacking grade: 40.2
LA

40.2 is worst in the League.....you may be OK with that but I"m not
Bragging about a 6 year vet being marginally better than a rookie is funny as hell. Limmer will improve and I personally rather he get his shot to improve off of his rookie year than roll with Shelton. We all know Shelton is a small center that can't handle s bull rush to save his life. I'd cringe at that thought of him lining up against Jalen Carter. Of course all this could also be a moot point if we somehow draft another hidden gem on the interior lol

If the Rams were worried about Limmer they would have went after Kelly, who went to Minnesota. Signing Shelton is basically saying "ok we know we won't be taking a depth C in this class so let's make sure that role is filled now in FA on the cheap."

I don't think they gave him a 2 year deal to be a backup. I think it's a camp battle 100 percent.

It’s kind of funny that, out of all the DL you could have mentioned, you pick Carter.

The very guy that Limmer didn’t even try to block on the critical 3rd and three play.

I agree with your post but if Limmer, or any center, had just gotten in front of Carter on that play … even if he was run-over … it may have given Stafford and Higbee the extra second that could have put the Rams in the NFC Championship Game.

According to Sportrac, Daniel Jones is guaranteed 13.1 mill. That's insane

Tried to tell you he and Darnold would get paid. There's a lot of QB desperate teams, I'm just surprised nobody went after Jimmy
I had no doubts that Darnold would get paid, just cant believe that a guy who was on the practice squad last year and available to the whole league can land a bag like that.

I think he was basing it off the PFF grade in which case "much better" would be accurate. I think Limmer had the lowest PFF pass pro grade in the league.

A lot of teams need QBs and not enough in the draft
Which is why it's a 1 year deal.

Hopefully, Nick Hampton and/or Brennan Jackson can step into the role of a solid Edge-reserve; and I would not sleep on Keir Thomas. Whenever he is in a game, Thomas flashes ... much like Desjuan Johnson.
Not sure Hampton would fill the same kind of role (a little light in the pants) but I have hopes of Brennan stepping up and to a lesser extent Thomas.
