I think that franchise is on the way up
You could be correct but I just don't see it. Their defense is so ass and their offense definitely needs work. I can see the offense improving but that defense was just atrocious.

Tons of backloaded contracts (taking advantage of salary cap continuing to go up though Covid bit them in the ass). They'll pay the piper but it's in the future.

I will say, why more teams don't take advantage of more backloaded deals is a mystery to me as you're able to marginally take advantage of cap going up.
Yeah, they are up against it as all of their big contracts are backloaded. So they won't be able to do much more.

I would expect them to trade Goedert after this upcoming season just like they did with Ertz a few years ago. He is one of the few guys they have that can be moved in the next few years without a big cap hit and can save cap space.

I could see an AJ trade in another year or so as well, while he still has value.

.....they actually don't have a lot of high priced vets. Only six total players above $10m similar to the Rams.
But those vets have big deals, they are just back loaded. So that limits them sonewhat. Also why the Eagles always lead the league in dead cap as they often end up eating dead cap space and then signing new guys to more backloaded deals. Their owner is willing to operate that way with a lot of upfront money. That's the key.

Enter Willie Gay Jr. Cheap and effective, unless I'm missing something.
I have no idea if Willie Gay is a viable option but that would be the TYPE of free agent I would like to see the Rams pursue.

Don't pay $17M-per-year for Zack Baun.

Do what the Eagles did twelve months ago.
Identify and sign THIS YEAR'S Zack Baun (or Mekhi Becton or Oren Burks).
Those three productive Super Bowls starters combined, represented a $4.6M cap hit to Philadelphia ... Combined!

Sad franchise for Kupp to get traded to. I like Coen but the Jags just seem like a team that will never win anything.
I would think he would have to be okay with it. So IF this is true, he may like the familiarity with Cohen & Gladstone while taking on a leadership role with a young team that does have some talent. At least a QB...I think.

Jacksonville isn't a great place to live, despite being Florida, but he may not figure that out until he gets there.

The WRs are actually not that expensive. I think AJ Brown is at $17m or so. Philly has drafted really well and they actually don't have a lot of high priced vets. Only six total players above $10m similar to the Rams.
Also, I think they have a habit of extending their guys early to get ahead of the market on guys.

Why would anyone give much away for 2 years of Mayer when they have a stacked draft that can net them someone cheaper for 4 years? He’s potential at this point and that’s not a good thing.
That should end the discussion on potentially acquiring mayer.

kid just couldn't keep his hands to himself

Right, but that near pix-six he had that got called back by his penalty showed exactly why he was a Thorpe winner. Unfortunately, he was grabby, but he has legit ball skills that will get him a look by other teams. And who knows? Maybe he learns and becomes a solid player. It was never going to be with us, though.

Perhaps I got a bit too excited because he was all over the place when KC had him. Looks like he played like shit with 'aints last year. Not sure if that was a product of being in a terrible defense or not.

Is DK really a big time WR? Last year he couldn't even crack 1k yards and played in 16 games. He's above average, but "big time" doesn't seem to add up.

Maybe it was simply a bad fit. Gay was good enough to start 47 games in four seasons in K.C.

By comparison, Zack Baun started a total of 14 games in four seasons in New Orleans before finding a great spot in Philly.

Pretty consistent, productive and durable.

For most of his career, the Seahawks have been a run-oriented, defensive team.

Major asshole though ... IMO.
