Lecitus Smith , OL , Virginia Tech

Lecitus Smith came to Virginia Tech to play tight end but made the switch to offensive line following the 2017 season where he found a home at left guard for the Hokies. Smith features an interesting build that includes a thick lower half, condensed midsection, and modest length. He has good athleticism, functional strength, and natural knee bend, which leads to consistency in all phases. With that said, his lack of length does create some challenges with hand placement and winning with first contact. His aggressive demeanor, functional strength, and balanced skill set combined with his relative newness at the position gives Smith plenty of appeal as a developmental starter in the NFL. Smith profiles best to a zone rushing scheme at guard but lacks positional flexibility overall. Smith is likely to provide developmental depth in year one but has the makeup of a reliable starter by year two or three.

Malcolm Rodriguez will be an interesting case come draft day. He checks almost all the boxes as he is super fast, vertically explosive, and has had 4 years with mega production. Sounds like a first round pick, right? Well, he is undersized in many ways. Height is an issue, his arm length is very poor, and even in a new age of smaller LBs, some will see 232 pounds as too light. Rodriguez will be a small glance into what the NFL cares about more. Size, speed… the measurables? Or do they care more about what is put on tape in terms of production? Because he has a lot of that.
