Hard fuck no on Clowney, he’s a cancer and a lazy player who believes his own hype. Don’t want him anywhere near the Rams.
I tend to agree. But what if Henderson could get that dude rolling.

I think carr gets a bad rap. The raider defense has been bad to ugly during his career with them. 30 points a game is what’s needed to keep the raiders winning. Just look at their defensive rankings over the last decade. I would take carr over a lotta starting QBs right now. There’s at least one team in every division that would be upgraded with carr.

Some Seahawks fans were talking about this after the news broke yesterday. According to them clowney is the king of stats you don't see. They said he's a monster in the run game and he doesn't convert sacks but does get pressure. So I could see the intrigue of letting him play next to Donald and Floyd. That is a big and athletic defensive line.
Clowney was a very underrated player earlier in his career because his sack numbers never matched up to what people expected of him. Great run defender who put a good amount of pressure on the QB. He'd have been amazing on our defense, if he stayed healthy. Issue is that he's about to turn 30, has struggled to stay healthy for years, and isn't coming off a good year. Yeah, if he's cheap, I could see the Rams considering it. But it's more likely somebody else offers him more, and he's a guy who will follow the money.

If there's a reclamation project I could see us pursuing, it's Marcus Davenport from the Saints. He's much younger, has had some issues staying healthy, and isn't coming off a good year. But he's always been a fantastic athlete, flashed ability (particularly in 2021), and is a physical presence on the edge (important against SF).

I could also see us pursuing Jerry Hughes if the Texans cut him. Grab him as a vet and then grab an EDGE in the Draft.

I love this idea.

Marcus Davenport is someone I'm considering putting in my mock offseason. Great minds think alike. :D

He is good in the run game as a DE. He doesn’t really fit the Rams scheme as a 4/3 player, but if they can play Hoecht there I guess they can play Clowney. He may have trouble getting any pressure with the Rams 10 yard cushions.

I couldn’t believe they didn’t sign Hughes last winter.

Hopefully the Rams add some stickier corners who can recognize routes better!

I love the idea of Davenport! Saw that he's projected to make 20 million plus next year though?! Youth and athleticism I guess. I'd love Hughes too. Honestly I'd love Fowler or okoronkwo back if we swing and miss on the big guys.

Think vet route with a edge we draft will be the play unless Snead wheels and deals for someone. Not sure if we'll draft an edge with the 1st pick we have since o-line is a big ass need if we want to keep Stafford upright.

That's why his stats are misleading, a lot of his yardage and stats come from garbage time. Throws the ball a ton, consistently in top 10 of pass attempts. With the weapons they have, he should have had a monster season, but he didnt. Ironically, when you watch him play you see a guy who's pretty conservative with the ball yet he throws a lot of INT. Jarret Stidham comes in and has a better game than Carr had all year. Against one of the best D's and he's a nobody

That feels steep and likely out of reach if true.
Well projection is another word for "guess". Take into account injury history, recent production, etc. and NFL teams might not offer the "projection". He never played more than 14 games in any of his 5 years. Last year 11 but he started 9 and had 9 sacks. This year 14 (a new career high) and he's started 9 with 1/2 sack. Last year he was injured in the opener, missed 4 weeks, played the next 5 (starting 3), was inactive for 2 and then started the last 5. Had he been healthy he could have had a great season, statistically. This year he started the first 9 games and then didn't start. His last five games this year, he hasn't started and his snap count has dropped significantly each week. I don't know if he's injured but he's not on the injury report this week.

Thanks for adding these comments. I didn’t know those details about his last 5 games. Hmm.

Yeah just going off of spotrac projections. I guess it's based on him being young and an amazing athlete.
I checked Spotrac earlier and the valuation was lower and looked too low. But searching other sources I am seeing >$20M.

Here is the Spotrac projection I saw earlier, if you select valuation tab:

I don’t think there is any evidence to suggest anyone can get that slug working hard enough to be worth the risk.

I’d rather have no one than him.

I wouldn't take him over Stafford. But if Stafford actually did retire I would have no problem replacing him with Derek Carr. They lost a lot of close games this year that was not all Derek Carr's fault. The defense failed quite a few.
