I mean, that's all we had on the sub. Never trusted no solid state electronics! ~ thirteen28
Ssuuuurrreee. We all now that underwater squids only had vacuum tube machines and everybody hotracked...Hey, we had circuit boards with TTL circuits on it ... entire logic gates on a single board!!!
(seriously, no blue font needed).

I work in the aerospace industry and when I started in '88 we still had a machine that used vacuum tubes. It was for destructive testing to determine strength of product. It was made by "Instron" and it was the TTD model. It was sold off 2 or 3 years later, '90 or 91.Ssuuuurrreee. Sure. HF Transceievers in use in the 80's (R-1051/T-827's) had tubes. Of course the radars had high power tubes. Some audiophiles still prefer tubes over solid state becaue they think the sound quality is better...I work in the aerospace industry and when I started in '88 we still had a machine that used vacuum tubes. Every year a guy from "Instron" comes to service and calibrate our machines and about 3 years ago we were chatting and I told him about our TTD. He said he still serviced one at Moffett Field, formerly N.A.S. now run by NASA.
The Navy turned it over to NASA about 1994 and I doubt NASA brought from somewhere else to use. So I'm guessing the Navy was still using vacuum tube tech as late as '94 and NASA still did as of about 2018.
