Does this mean that there might be a possibility that the Rams MIGHT be able to keep both Littleton and Fowler???

Spotrac had already built in a figure of $199mil, so that puts them right in the middle of these estimates. 2018 was a record revenue year and I had hoped & expected a little more, although there is still the potential for adding a couple $mil more once it's all said and done.

You can go here and decide for yourself where there might be room to squeeze in a favored player, but this CAP for 2020 remains very tight :

Thanks for the reply and information! As much as I hate it I am guessing Fowler won’t be back next season!

I see Fowler being back as unlikely. Littleton and Ramsey seem like who they’d target before Fowler. We’ve got Mathews for one more year and Obo showing promise and Ramsey cost two first round picks. Seems like the smartest play. Fowler will get us a third rounder at least.

Starting to think they are going to have an offseason like they had in 2018 where they traded Ogletree, Austin, and Quinn. They re-balanced their roster and they need to do that again.

I could see the following players traded/released in order to clear cap space and to accumulate some needed draft capital.

Then maybe they move that cap room to the defense where it can help pay for some young stars like Littleton or Fowler.

I also see Cooks being moved next year to complete the "re-balance" of the roster. He just causes to much of a cap hit this year if moved.

Trades
******************

Everett - saves $1.3M & could get a 3rd or 4 for him. Plus, likely can't keep him past 20'.

Roby-Coleman - saves $4M & again could get a 4 since CB are always a need. I also think they want better size/tackling in their secondary in this physical division.

Havenstein - saves $1.8M and a team like the Giants would kill for a RT like him. Could get a high 3rd... Of course if they want Evans at RT.

Cooks likely has to stick around one more year contract-wise.

Cuts/releases
****************************
Weddle - saves $4.25M
Matthews - saves $3.75M

Final talley

Everett - $1.3
Havenstein - $1.8M
Matthews - $3.75M
Roby-Coleman - $4M
Weddle - $4.25M

That clears $15.1M, giving you approx $40M in cap room.

You also net say a 3rd & two 4th round picks for the 2020 draft.

So question is do you do this if you want to keep what you might consider special players like Littleton and Fowler? And they both do seem special. Fowler's speed will be tough to replace and with the improved coverage he becomes a big factor.

Now the 2nd option with Fowler is he just might get you a 2nd round pick plus a mid rounder, in a tag & trade scenario.

So if you have faith in Snead, then that might be the best option. Save his expected cap hit and get a quality draft pick or two.

Anyway just my two cents as I must admit I am starting to think of ways to keep Fowler and or Littleton. The D is starting to look special. They just need a few DL that can be special. Franklin-Myers busting was a real set back there.

$200 million is what spotrac.com and overthecap.com have been projecting for a long while now.

It is all relative.

We still have less cap space than most teams.
We also have more young quality starters, who will be cheap for a few years, when compared to most teams.

Sitting here in Philly, their roster is a trainwreck. They have zero young players 25 or under, that building block players. And they just signed a number of aging players to contract extensions.

i love Fowler’s upside but there is other young talent at that position. i see no one that can backfill Littleton so if i had to chose we have to have Littleton.

I was/am pissed at Weddle for his comment about his "ethics" concern about helping his team with some info about a team that he doesn't play for..Having said that, I think he's too valuable back there to dump him...Maybe I don't get it, but I think his value as a very smart stabilizing guy is pretty large by itself...

Don’t see them cutting Matthews or Weddle after just one year, as we’ve got to be careful after trading Peters and Talib, and that would look bad to other free agents interested in signing with the Rams.

Only the ancient ones.
Who knows what was promised when these contracts were drawn up, but both make it pretty easy to bail on after this season, especially Weddle's. If Littleton is let go, may be that Matthews gets more play time next to Travin Howard next year, with Ebukam back to starting at his OLB position. JJ3 and Rapp are the future at Safety, pretty much making Weddle and his high CAP # obsolete, and Christian is becoming another free agent at the end of this season, ... Gervase has already been brought up from the practice squad and the Rams recently acquired big Adonis Alexander to the practice squad. Along with rookie Nick Scott, a mid to late round draft pick for a Safety should have us just about set going forward.

Yes and no.
It means everyone has more money to play with.
It seems those upper mid level guys benefit the most.
A WR who’s never had more than 700 yards signs for $10 M a year. A DE with an average 6 sacks a year signs for $12 M a year.
Fowler could get way over paid.
I hope they bring both back.
This should ensure the lower level FAs stay along with Littleton.

And you thought our cap situation was bad.
It's hard to tell from Yates' tweet if those teams are really in a bad space cap-wise, they might be. You'd need to look at the teams' contracts. The Jags for example, have 4 or 5 guys that have haven't been producing at their contract levels and can be cut in 2020. Suddenly they have $65 million in cap space. They'll need to reload, but they'll have money and draft picks to do it:

  1. Released Marcell Dareus
    (Saved: $20,000,000)
  2. Released Calais Campbell
    (Saved: $15,000,000)
  3. Released A.J. Bouye
    (Saved: $11,500,000)
  4. Released Brandon Linder
    (Saved: $8,000,000)
  5. Released Marqise Lee
    (Saved: $5,250,000)
