With the 253rd pick of
the 2020 ROD Mock Draft the Minnesota Vikings select:

Stephen Sullivan
Tight End
LSU
HEIGHT 6'5"

WEIGHT 248 lbs
20200418_014703.jpg

Overview
Big receiver with the body type and contested catch toughness to make transition to a big slot or flex tight end role. He added weight and played tight end early in the year, but simply lacked the functional strength as a blocker. However, he's an above-average blocker in space who can help spring receiver screens, jet-sweeps and outside runs. He finds traffic and coverage too often in his routes and needs to get better at using his burst and body to separate. He's a developmental project worth a stash spot while teams keep tinkering and teaching to see if they have something.

Strengths
  • Ridiculously gigantic catch radius
  • Praised by staff for his high character and team-first attitude
  • Good size with long frame as a big slot TE/WR
  • Has body control and adjustments to block in space
  • Uses footwork to mirror and sustain his blocks
  • Fires into outside cornerbacks with good force
  • Pass-catching tape was better in 2018
  • Frame and toughness to protect the catch into collisions
  • Can high-point it over coverage
  • Still getting better with potential to attack the seam

The Bronco's recap

1-15 Andrew Thomas T Georgia
2-14 Damon Arnette CB Ohio St
3-13 Chase Claypool WR Notre Dame
3-19 Jordyn Brooks ILB Texas Tech
3-31 Rashard Lawrence DL LSU
4-12 KJ Hill WR Ohio St
5-33 Khalil Davis DL Nebraska
6-2 K'Von Wallace S Clemson
7-38 T Scott Frantz Kansas St.
7-40 TE Charlie Woerner TE Georgia

I didn't intend to go T in round 1 but when IMO the best in the bunch falls to 15 you sprint to the podium. While a need they could have been just as well off going with a Guard in round 2 but this was too much to pass up. I went into this with the understanding there were 2 primary needs for the Broncos WR and CB with OLine, ILB and DL just slightly behind them. I think the first two picks could start Thomas I'd give the chance to beat out Bolles who's a walking penalty if not he starts at Guard. Arnette could start at CB or at worse be their nickle back. Claypool and Hill both will see snaps on offense. Brooks is a long term upgrade but with them picking up Todd Davis' option it's not pressing he starts but is a long term starter there. Lawrence and Davis provide depth and quality snaps along the DLine. I'm a fan personally of the next 3 picks which are all depth. Addressing the needs imo is an A grade. Quality and addressing the main needs is likely a B. Bronco's fans that I've asked largely say that this is a very realistic mock for them. They'd accept it but wouldn't do cartwheels which means it's likely to happen something like this so they're good with the work done. That was before the 2 7th round flier picks.

Nice Draft!

If you recall, I picked in front of you for Tampa Bay in round one.

I was soooo close to nabbing Thomas, as Tackle was a primary need.

But, Tampa has the Brady Girl QB now, and two top tier receivers. I just couldn't resist taking the speedster Henry Ruggs III at 4.28 Forty time. His speed really could make these a top tier corps for Brady to toss the rock too.

I took a tackle in the 2nd round, but that's a little background behind the scenes stuff. You ALMOST didn't get him! lol

Yeah really surprised all of them were there but they each would have a chance to start or at least be 1st off the bench type depth.

And if you'd taken Thomas Ruggs was my pick then likely go Peart or Niang in the 2nd which of course changes the 3rd round where I likely try to trade up for Bryce Hall though that costs me one of Brooks or Lawrence.

With the 253rd pick of the
2020 ROD Mock Draft
the Minnesota Vikings select:

Jared Pinkney
Tight End
Vanderbilt
HEIGHT 6'4"

WEIGHT 257 lbs
20200418_152512.jpg
Overview
Pinkney is a talented H-back with size, athleticism and ball skills who, at times, looked and played like a player who wished he had come out in the previous draft. He has enough speed to attack the seam and is effective working across the hashes into space. He can add yardage after the catch, but needs to fine-tune his route-running and play with better physicality against clingy coverage. He can handle move-blocking duties in space, but doesn't appear to have enough grit and strength to help in-line. He should become a productive pass-catcher with TE2 traits and talent.

Strengths
  • Good size, including long arms and big hands
  • Fluid hips with above-average athleticism in space
  • Quick to sink, open and eat up zone
  • Sudden hands to snare fastballs underneath
  • Worked seam and deep middle frequently in 2018
  • Able to do additional damage after the catch
  • Unafraid to catch into the teeth of safeties
  • Tracks and adjusts to flight path of the ball
  • Catch radius rescues throws outside the frame in all directions
  • Flashed improved determination as run blocker against LSU
  • Can locate and land as move blocker in space
