DRAFTRapoport: How teams are improvising to make up for canceled visits
Player Bio

Dennis Wonnum, Jr. was an all-state pick at tight end his junior year at Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He was an all-region pick on defense the next year, which portended his success with the Gamecocks. Wonnum played in all 13 games as a top reserve his true freshman season (32 tackles, 3.5 for loss) before moving into the starting lineup (and earning a team captaincy) the following year. Wonnum led South Carolina with 13 tackles for loss and six sacks (57 total stops) and broke up five passes in 2017. His junior year was disrupted by an ankle injury that caused him to miss eight contests (11 tackles, 3.5 for loss, two sacks in five starts). Healthy as a senior, Wonnum started all 12 games (37 tackles, 9.5 for loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception, one blocked kick). D.J.'s younger brother, Dylan, is a starting offensive lineman for the Gamecocks.

Analysis

Overview
Wonnum has experience playing standing or with a hand down but is best suited as a rush linebacker in a 3-4. He's not a premium pass rusher but possesses desirable length and slippery body turn to create pressure with secondary rush effort or when activated in a twisting front. He carries decent core strength but might always struggle as a run defender due to below-average bend. His lack of speed and suddenness could work against him and his ceiling might be as a good backup with rotational potential off the edge.

Strengths
  • Named permanent team captain as a sophomore
  • Strides up to rush turn with adequate burst
  • Keeps the engine running as secondary rusher
  • Quick outside-to-inside transitions with rush counter
  • Jump-cuts for expedited charge on twists
  • Used as A-gap blitzer and to drop and cover from the same look
  • Body turn to slither between interior pass pro while he's on the move
  • Shows off some hip swivel to circumvent block
  • Additional pass rush waiting to be unlocked with spin counter at the top
  • Solid disengage to tackle when setting edge
Weaknesses
  • Thin lower half
  • Not enough conversion of speed to power at this time
  • Unable to get low and bend the edge
  • Hand fighting insufficient to deaden the edge
  • Stopped dead in his tracks when punched squarely
  • Lacks strength to forcefully improve positioning
  • Play speed and range is limited
  • Will struggle to track runners from backside and leverage to sideline
  • Can be widened off his edge by single blocks

@MadGoat you are officially banned from this draft for taking my supposedly obscure player in Bowden Jr! -_- lol /blue font

How the hell did you come across info on him to draft him? Random list or what?

I’m a Penn State fan. I remember what he did against them in the Citrus Bowl last year. I didn’t get to see much of him this year, but I saw highlights during the season.

Guy is ridiculous! He’s like Tavon Austin but doesn’t go down with a the first hit!

Imagine what McVay could do with him? IDC i want him and Moss this draft to shore up our RB situation.

Bowden can be 3rd down split out WR packages and our dynamic returner. We been missing TD’s and meaningful returns consistently for to long now!

Amazing what someone doing to your college team will make you feel about them being on your NFL team. I feel that way about Zach Baun LB from Wisconsin. Guy did crazy good against Michigan that bastard!

The second I saw freshman Sam Bradford tear Mizzou a new one in the Big Twelve Championship in 2007, I wanted him on the team. Shame it didn't work out.

Very true, his damn body. smh
I really struggle on a self debate how good he would of been without injuries costing him all the time as I’m sure we all do.

One of the great disappointments as a Ram fan was not seeing Sam deliver. His body just wasn’t up to it.

Almost 4hrs for @jetplt67 and Detroit, nominations for the pick ? I will abstain as I am up next.
Honestly I would think secondary for them. I’ll be able to look at who is left in a bit, but they need depth and development back there for having the most passing yards given up last year.

They drafted 2 stud CB’s already

I think they need to go Edge

I'll suggest Michael Ojemudia of Iowa.

EDIT: Never mind, he's another corner.
