Surprised he went before Love but I like him. Tyrod will probably breathe a little easier too as this should mean he starts this year.

You watch the Washington / Oregon game I thought he really outplayed Herbert. I love (no pun intended) the guy. Great arm, excellent bloodlines, prototype QB, nice accuracy. He can develop behind Tyrod as you say and get his shot in 2021.

Analysis

Overview
Challenging evaluation for quarterback-needy teams balancing traits and potential against disappointing 2019 tape. Staff turnover and new starters across the offense are partly to blame for his regression, but self-made flaws in process were also concerns. Love's accuracy took a step back, and his delayed reaction from "see it" to "throw it" when making reads is troubling. He has the arm to stick throws into tight windows but needs better eye discipline and anticipation to keep windows open. His size, mobility and arm talent combined with his 2018 flashes could be a winning hand that leads a team into the future or a siren's song of erratic play and unfulfilled potential.
Strengths
  • Tall in the pocket and smooth, natural thrower
  • Keeps ball tucked and secure while scanning the field
  • Tight spirals come from a variety of arm slots
  • Offenses built upon intermediate and deep reads/throws
  • Confident passer attacking between the hashes
  • Makes athletic pocket exits when scrambling
  • Good open-field vision and speed to move the sticks
  • Arm strength to dime it into windows
  • Drops deeps balls in with plenty of air and touch
  • In 2018, trusted big receivers to make plays on 50/50s
  • Arm talent and swagger to attack field side Cover 2 hole
  • Has access to expedited, compact release when pressured
Weaknesses
  • Consistency and production took massive step backward in 2019
  • Looping windup part of slower operation time
  • Too much staring and telegraphing
  • Six games with multiple interceptions, including three pick-sixes
  • Below-average decision-making against zone looks
  • Allowed coverage to swarm due to lack of anticipation
  • Unusually spotty ball placement forced targets to work for catches
  • Completed just 31.8 percent of his deep throws
  • Doesn't slide to safer launch points enough
  • Will void viable pockets at times
  • Needs to use eyes to hold safeties longer
  • Issues bringing in off-target snaps, leading to fumbles

With the 39th pick of the ROD Draft, the Miami Dolphins select a player to protect their new QB.

Josh Jones OT Houston

Jones originally committed to Oklahoma State after finishing his high school career as a three-star recruit and member of the Houston Chronicle Top 100. However, then-Cougars head coach Tom Herman was grabbing the best players from around the area, so Jones flipped his choice. He redshirted his first year with the program before stepping into the starting left tackle spot for all 13 games the following fall. Herman left for Texas that season, but Jones stayed at UH, starting 10 games at left tackle and missing two due to injury as a sophomore. Despite excelling on the blindside in all 13 games at a junior, American Athletic Conference coaches failed to name him all-league. They rectified that situation by voting him second-team all-conference his senior year despite only starting the team's first nine games at left tackle due to a knee injury. Jones' father, Bobby, played semi-pro football.

Overview
Early tape would suggest that Jones is a raw, developmental project in need of substantial technique work, but tape study later in the season suggests a level of improvement that creates additional intrigue for the long, athletic left tackle prospect. To be clear, he needs plenty of work with his pass sets and footwork, but most of his issues appear to be coachable. He's a good fit for a move-oriented rushing attack and has the traits and talent to become a future starter if he continues to develop with coaching.
Strengths
  • Long frame has room for additional mass
  • Plus athlete with great bend throughout lower half
  • Able to get to difficult reach blocks on play-side and back-side
  • Quick out of stance and on the track when asked to pull
  • Easy climbs to second-level linebacker
  • Showed rapid improvement inside the season
  • Hand placement not perfect, but getting better
  • Has lateral-slide smoothness to handle mirroring duties
  • Many of his current issues are coachable and should improve
  • Hints at a potentially nasty field demeanor
Weaknesses
  • Too slow in letting his hands go, prohibiting his arm length from working for him
  • Has to improve his understanding of angles as move blocker
  • Needs better acceleration into initial engagement to improve drive blocking
  • Will have to improve core strength to eliminate inconsistent body control
  • Technique and footwork in pass pro need plenty of work
  • Needs to sit down on his punch and get feet set
  • Pass sets often disjointed with early shoulder turn against edge speed
  • Too much waist-bending leads to uncertain anchor versus bull rush

Well hell. Don't want everyone waiting on me first thing tomorrow morning so after @RamsFlash80 makes his pick I'll go with the following, in order:

1. Jalen Raegor, WR, Texas Christian.
2. Jeremy Chinn, SS/LB, Southern Illinois (if Raegor is off the board).

Love your work @Merlin. I'm happy to take your picks via pm if you like ( as I'm sure @TK42-RAM and @Corbin are) if that helps with keeping your picks somewhat private though.

With the 40th pick in the ROD draft the Houston Texans select J.K. Dobbins, RB Ohio St.
ohio-state-jk-dobbins-highlight.jpg

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k3kPEuSzrI

  • PROS: Attacks defenses with wonderful field vision and decision making. Beautifully blends the patience to allow blocks to take form while also urgently attacking creases. Love how he responds to defenders that flash in the hole and his general spatial awareness in tight quarters. Attacks the line of scrimmage with excellent pace and foot cadence, often making his blockers right while manipulating the second level. Terrific perimeter runner because of his acceleration and the angles he takes to the boundary. Everything looks balanced and natural with the ball in his hands. Has sweet feet for a back of his density. Executes cuts and jukes with precise timing. Smooth operator stringing together moves and angling away from defenders. Features a low center of gravity and terrific contact balance which allows him to win post-contact. Always finishes his touches, keeps his legs churning and grinds out yards as he falls forward. Competes for every inch. Generally sound in pass protection in terms of diagnosing pressure, squaring up and keeping the passer clean. Has been featured steadily as a pass catcher across three seasons. Hands appear reliable. Has plenty of twitch and wiggle for a back of his size. Love his elusiveness and lateral quickness; makes his share of dynamic cuts outside his frame. He’s versatile with no limitations.
CONS: Has room to grow and prove his route running skill set. Most of his receiving production came by taking advantage of manufactured space and leaking out of the backfield. Loves to be physical, at times to a fault and he can do a better job of avoiding some hits along the sideline where the tradeoff in terms of yardage and taking the hit are unnecessary.
BEST TRAIT - Vision, Contact Balance
    WORST TRAIT - Route Running
    RED FLAGS - None
    NFL COMP - Josh Jacobs
JK Dobbins enters the NFL after logging over 4,400 rushing yards across three seasons at Ohio State with more than 2,000 of those coming in his final season. Illustrating steady growth across his collegiate career, Dobbins is an ascending prospect that profiles as a plug-and-play NFL starter. Dobbins’ vision, decision-making, burst, power and elusiveness make him an exciting weapon that can be the focal point of a productive NFL backfield. Hauling in 71 receptions for 545 yards, Dobbins is a capable pass catcher but will need some development as a route runner. Dobbins is versatile and without limitations, making him a scheme-transcendent back with a bright future.

Poor David Johnson.
DJ looked done last year. Still dont know why the Texans traded for him with his contract lol. Its insane that the Cards got value for him while the Rams couldnt get anything for Gurley. Gurley was by far better than DJ last year while also being younger.
