A big part of my reasoning for addressing the TE position was the loss of Sammy Watkins and his red-zone touchdowns. Acquiring Branding Cooks actually improves the position, so there is less of a need for a TE, although I definitely think that position still needs to be addressed. If we went with believing in coach-speak like you're apt to do, the Rams wouldn't have dealt away Tavon Austin for a sixth-round pick given McVay's comments about wanting to fully develop him as a wide receiver.

Also notice how both Hayden Hurst and Dallas Goedert were long gone by the time the Rams were first on the clock. Even the overrated Mike Gesicki was off the board well before the 3rd round. Only Ian Thomas was a viable option with the 87th (traded down to 89th) overall selection and even I thought that was an iffy proposition given all our needs in other areas, especially in light of trading for Cooks already addressing most of my aforementioned concerns. And Thomas was taken at the very top of the 4th round before the Rams had a chance at him with their selections there.

Tyler Conklin is coming off injury and was picked in the same round where the Rams made arguably their best picks in the draft in terms of addressing needs and getting value in selecting Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and Micah Kiser. Jordan Thomas was the other TE prospect that had potential but is a project who needs to work on his blocking and he was taken at the end of the 6th round and would have been a work-in-progress like the ones already on our roster.

So how does the Rams not reaching for a TE prospect when the only two in this draft class who would have provided an immediate upgrade at the position were already long gone by the time the team even made its first selection warrant a gold star on your part? Maybe not trading away a first-round pick might have allowed the team to trade down a little to get Goedert even though Calvin Ridley likely would have been our pick, which again, addresses the very issue I brought up when I pointed to the TE situation to begin with. Let's also not forget that offering $4 million in guaranteed money to Tyler Eifert is nothing to sneeze at despite your claims to the contrary, especially in light of the cost for signing Ndamkong Suh and waiving of Kayvon Webster.

But go ahead and pat yourself on the back and puff your chest out for making another simple-minded assertion without taking the full context of the situation into account, especially when you're not exactly going out on a limb with the Rams having a late third-round pick to start the draft and a bunch of Day 3 selections. Bravo. You really are that "special" kind of genius, aren't you?
