.

fisher was the perfect hc for stan. there was no chance he could lead the team to the playoffs. the rams could accumulate all the talent they wanted without it showing in the win column. as soon as they moved to LA it was goodbye jeff. just waited for the right opportunity to boot him.

No picks could have saved Fisher because the flaw was in the process itself. I remember reading reporters saying that Mcvay's first practice felt more fiery than any of fishers. He could've drafted Odell and the offense still would've struggled mightily.

Rams were absolutely desperate for a LT that year. IIRC there was no other viable option, really.

So in this “what if” universe it would have had to be either Matthews or Lewan, and yeah, theoretically either of those two (with AD, without GRob) could have fulfilled the doomsday scenario and kept Fisher on board for another season or two...

I must admit I was banging the table for Matthews at number 2, my backup choice was Mack

We must also remember that Someone would have taken GRob most likely in the Top 10, if we had taken Lewan, especially..

I like to be the conspiracy guy. And I fully believe that they made Fisher the fall guy. Extremely boring offense. Defense made them somewhat competitive. The dome was empty. Made it an easy move.
Maybe I’m just bitter.
But idc that we took Greg Robinson. We still got the best player in a stacked great class that will have a couple HoFs

Horrible offenses got Fidher fired.

But wow. Mack and Donald in the same draft would have been deadly

I was shouted down on a clueless forum in St Louis for suggesting the Rams should take Mack at No. 2. But even if we had taken both Mack and Donald, and had better luck with Bradford's health, I agree now that Fisher would never have created a modern high execution offense. And I don't believe Fisher style power offense was consistently effective as a sole strategy even decades before that. The great coaches were always much more creative than that.

Surprisingly, Schottenheimer tried to introduce the spread at one point but Fisher shut it down. It was no innovation and all downhill from there.

I understand how you feel, because I have taken contrarian views on that site and was ripped. However, no one knew that Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack would be as good as they were. AD was too short and too light to be that great 3 Tech DT. As for Mack, not every high pick pans out. GR had the tools to be an elite LT, but had the brain of a Foreest Gump..."Run, Greg...RUN." Fisher was a high potential guy, but a lot of times busted out with that exclusive philosphy. There were 3-4 potential good-great LT's in that draft, and we struck out like perennially losing teams do.
