He body slammed Lockett after the whistle (Devon Witherspoon was flagged for the same thing later in the game) and then penalized for taunting the Seahawks bench after his INT. Dumb penalties. Not sure why anyone would defend that crap.

He also made some great plays.

Two things can be true at the same time.
Yeah, MAYBE that first penalty is a legit no-call but the second...that shit does not and will not fly in today's NFL.

Had I not been in such shock at him actually making the play I would have lost a gasket at the stupidity of the penalty.

Maybe because he is not so dependent on one guy, he did the same Chad Johnson.

For me, it comes down to real-time thought process.
Real-time thought process at that point in the game has to include more than the score.

If the defense has given up scores in the last 2 minutes of either half, then the clock is equally as important as the score.

I heard what McVay said and I understand. You want 7, not 3. But we ran 7 times on that drive.....9, 9, -3, 3, 4, 7 and 0 yards. 2nd and goal from the 7, Seattle with 1 timeout left. Even just 1 more run makes them use the last timeout.

Nothing is guaranteed and a pass could do it on one play but at least come out with a RB in the backfield to keep them guessing.
Empty on 2nd down? It didn't work anyway, so running would have done the same AND left them with under a minute to go.

He's a smart guy. Knows more than I or anybody else in this discussion. But if the FG doesn't go wide, he's got egg on his face IMHO.

It's all good. We won.

For me, it comes down to real-time thought process.

On the final Rams' drive I was a little torn watching it; and before the plays were called and executed,
I was thinking ... "Please don't play it safe. Go for the TD."

in real time ... at the moment, I was more than OK with most of the decisions.
I hear what you are saying, but... for me, in real time, before the 2nd down play was called, I was thinking, "McVay, what the hell are you doing?!?!"

The 2nd and goal call came with 1:47 left and Seattle had one timeout. As it unfolded, after the FG and subsequent kickoff, Seattle snapped the ball with 1:31 left.

Had McVay thought of his defense first and called a run play on 2nd and 3rd downs, at least 35 more seconds could have been killed, meaning Seattle would have had to start their drive with only about 55 seconds left.

In my mind, there is a HUGE difference between starting a drive (with no timeouts) with 1:31 and 0:55. With only 0:55, the D can funnel everything to the middle of the field and truly take away the sidelines. One pass completed in the field of play severely hampers the O.

Agreed that playcalling is an interesting mix of aggression and conservatism. In this case, I thought McVay was taking an unnecessary risk by going no-backfield on 2nd down. Would much rather he'd play clock-ball in that instance.

I’ve got no problem with McVay throwing the ball there but the empty set drives me crazy. You have to at least make the D consider the run.

crybaby seahag fans were blaming the refs on X. But it was 12 penalties to 9, both teams had a lot. Hag fans are idiots as usual. :bigcry:

Rewatching the game and noted the Stafford interception shouldn’t have happened. Defender led with his crown and did not attempt to wrap up.

I don’t know what the hell is wrong with these officials. Umpire is standing two feet away from the play. Referee has an excellent visual and up to that point, was doing his job. Safety plays are the ones you want to get correct, those are how players get injured. Should have been 15 yards for roughing the passer and a potential review for disqualification.

IMO I thought it was targeting when it happened and was shocked at no flag.
Roughing the passer would net an automatic first down. Technically, you’re correct it was spearing, but when it’s committed against a QB they should be penalizing the offending team, which would be the former.
