That was the beginning of the end. Guarantee Shanahan used this in his half time speech.
"They're scared of you...!"
I was really ticked off when they ran out the clock before halftime

It's like a game of rock, paper, scissors where McVay keeps going rock knowing that Shanahan will go scissors at some point.
Meanwhile, Shanahan is thinking, I'm going paper until Mac changes it up.....
And that is exactly what I keep saying about the soft zone shit against SF.

McVay went scissors in the playoffs and got us a Super Bowl. Now he's BACK to rock thinking Shanahan won't expect that.

It's Groundhog Day.

The losses in 2019 were a little different (especially the 2nd one in a high-scoring game), but from 2020 onward, every loss to these guys has looked pretty much the same, including the game plans we went in with.

Between the entire coaching staff, has nobody walked up to Morris and said "the huge pussy cushions your are giving the SF WR's is the reason they are able to march down the field over and over again". That is THEIR game. Short quick passes. Guess how you defend that? Man Press. Guess what we have? 2 big press corners on the outside..... Its infuriating that us fans sitting at home see something so goddamn obvious and these guys getting paid millions are oblivious?

Right, so I dont think it's necessarily DC related, they pounded us with Wade in game 1 in 2019, then the 2nd game was the infamous "defense couldnt stop 3rd and 16, TWICE" game...
Rams change DC, same result. 49ers change DC, same result.....

Well a lot of that is that we couldn't stop the run for the life of us in 2019 and 2020. And I put a lot of blame on that on our MLB.

Litttleton in 2019 was too small and should have been an OLB in a 4-3 defense and Reeder (well.... you know how I feel about Reeder)

Not necessarily DC related but game plan related. I don't recall as much about the 2019 losses, but from 2020 up through yesterday, we've pretty much done the same thing defensively against those guys in ever single regular season meeting, and we've gotten largely the same results.

On the offensive side of the ball, the high-scoring game in 2019 was one where McVay did a lot of different stuff, starting with the rollouts of the QB, to compensate for the OL problems. It largely worked as our offense had a pretty good game. But since then, I haven't seen McVay do much of anything different against them, and I don't see him employing the same wrinkles on O that he does in other games.
