Run defense seemed fine enough today. Williams gashed us a bit near the end, but it was fine for most of the game.
The final drive was the most disturbing of the day. The drive for a field goal at the half was disturbing too. What makes our defense like Swiss cheese at these important points of the game?

Our D kind of feels like our O last year, if you'll pardon the apples to oranges comparison. There is a lot of talent there, but things just seem to be much harder than they should be.

You’re not going to enjoy this season if you’re disappointed whenever we don’t win by a blowout.

We scored 28 points this game and have held a lot of teams under 20. Winning by 9 is a solid margin.

This is the NFL and D coordinators are going to try and take a away something. This week it was the run game. But guess what, Stafford threw for 300+ yards/3 TDs/0 INTs and we were 9/13 (69%) on 3rd down. If one thing is taken away, you have to do something else, something we’ve shown that we can do.

Morris continues with his naive philosophy that good enough is good enough. He's got exceptional talent on the D but is foolish in his use of it. He continues to use Ramsey as a LB leaving a hole in the secondary that is being exploited. It's not worth the occasional sack or pressure Ramsey might get. His impact would be far greater as a CB than a LB. Morris is trying to turn the Ram's best DB into a Jamal Adams not realizing that Adams is played like a LB because he can't cover.

Goff showed he isn't the problem with the Lions. He made Campbell look foolish for his throwing him under the bus. When a team resorts to the level of trickery the Lions played with it indicates desperation by the coaching staff. You could see what I've been contending about the Lion secondary. They have talent there but schematically and coaching wise they are played poorly. This is exemplified by the inconsistent nature of their play Their primary weakness is clearly the OL and in the front 7. They must blitz in order to get pressure.

This game showed that Goff isn't as bad as Campbell expresses. It also showed that Morris isn't as good as he thinks he is. Goff with his group of no-name receivers marched up and down the field burning the clock. The Ram defense should have dominated the Lions, but it didn't. The Ram D continues to play to the level of the competition not to dominate as they can. Morris' scheme looks better than it is simply because of the play of the offense. But this game exposed Morris stupidity that TOP doesn't matter. If the offense can't get on the field they can't prop Morris' dumbass up.

The defense is definitely lacking identity. I literally saw Ramsey get taken completely out of the play yesterday multiple times because the Rams got cute and kept blitzing him. While I think Ramsey is an outstanding blitzer it shouldnt be something that's done more than once or twice in a game. After Ramseys first blitz that was successful the lions quickly adjusted and picked him up on the following drives.
I hate it tbh. You're taking your best player in the secondary and completely taking him out of the play.
We end up putting Rapp in the same exact position he's struggled with the entire season and expect different results. It's mind boggling.
David long should be put away deep on the depth chart. He's downright awful.
This cover two zone shell has to go. I don't know why mcVay hasn't put his foot down on Morris as of yet but when we play better teams it will bite us in the ass. If Goff can make it look easy imagine what Rodgers, Murray, and Jackson are gonna do to this defense. It's inexcusable with the talent we have.
Special teams really got exposed yesterday. However I'll say I think the lions had this game circled on their calendar all year. I'm sure Goff and their coaching staff have been scouting us all season long. And they probably figured special teams would be the easiest unit to expose. Im not putting too much thought into it because at the end of the day we still won.
Goff throwing that INT at the end of the game was classic Goff. Good riddance.

I don’t usually chime in on how coaches use personnel but in third-and-long, I would love to see Rapp in the Nicel/Dime-LB role with either three Safeties (Fuller, Scott and Burgess) and three Cornerbacks; or two Safeties and four CBs.

I just don’t like Reeder in space.

Yeah remember when they put Reeder on Metcalf lol. This is such a bad system I don't know why they haven't put a stop to it

We may have a Lombardi, but I also suspect we'd still have Goff and be wondering what if we'd not scraped to a Super Bowl win.

Maybe you take the win, but the lustre wears off fairly quickly when you want more.
This is where I'm at. Been saying for years now that we would have won that Super Bowl if we had Kupp. He has been a huge loss for us in two playoffs in fact. But that doesn't mean things would change all that much.

We'd have a Super Bowl win which might have prevented them from getting Stafford. Of course if I could turn back time and magically make Kupp healthy for that game I would and I would enjoy the championship. But the move away from Jared would still need to be made I think.

Jared's just not the QB for an elite franchise with an ultra-competitive head coach. He's not good enough.

Me either.
They're in a known pass situation at the end of the game there, why in the fuck was he on the field? I just don't get it. That should be kenny young or ernest jones. Get reeder off this team please.

Ramsey blitzing is just such a waste. He's not an OLB, folks. Mebbe once / game.
Reeder dropping into coverage while Ramsey is in the box is criminal neglect level defensive play calling.
If our DB's suck that bad that we're using a Fisher-era cushion scheme, then PUT RAMSEY IN DA BACK FIELD.
As others have said, I actually don't think they're that bad -- same guys as last year & we had a #1 rated D. It's the scheme. Buh bye Morris.

I agree... somewhat - the 59 yard pass to kupp on 3rd and 12 was good though :p
Kupp was open and we really needed a big play. And it worked.

But in general I would much prefer to see Stafford take the best conversion opportunity on third down.

Personally I like time chewing drives with some running plays and short passes that frustrate the opposition and keep our D off the field. Patience. Like Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Peyton Manning. Just as a little change of pace from going for explosives all the times. Like a slow curve low and way on the outside corner.
