Well, it was the early 70's so take that into consideration.

I don't think Knox wore a toupee. That's a comb-over boys.
Not sure about that, you might be right, it also could be a partial toupee. I know all about that as my maternal side had many bald men, thankfully, I was not impacted to this day.

Well, I don't know about that. Several ROD posters have suggested that YOU are just TOO-damn-good-looking

Interesting that he was evaluating what was left of that 1972 team.

They hadn't tried McCutcheon at 1st team RB yet. He would become the Rams' seasonal 1000-yard runner and always in the top 5 of NFL RBS from 1973-1977. Yeah we're talking OJ, Foreman, Payton and Franco included. No slouches. Ellison, the Rams' 247-yard single game record rusher was traded to the Chiefs and then faded out.

QB Hadl hadn't been signed yet. Knox is talking Gabe here but when they brought in the Chargers' former QB he asked for a trade and was sent to the Eagles for....

WR Harold Jackson, who was an all-pro for the Eagles and took over as the #1.

Rams D-Line platoon LDE duo was given starts at opposite sides... Youngblood and Dryer. Their starting RE Bacon was sent to the Chargers for Hadl.

At MLB spec teams standout Hacksaw Reynolds was moved into elder statesman McKeever's spot, who was then gone shortly after taking a photo wearing the new royal and canaries and joined Gabe on the Eagles.

Colts CB Stukes and Saints S Reece were brought in to start.

Knox being the Jets and Lions former OL coach looked at the Ram OL and said "Oh yeah. I got me some USDA quality beef here."

And the rest is history!

Lots of good stuff there ... thanks Classic.

Knox replaced Tommy Prothro after just two seasons. Prothro did not win much but he knew talent.

In Prothro's short time, the Rams brought in Jack Youngblood, Lawrence McCutcheon, Isaiah Robertson,
Larry Brooks, Dave Elmendorf, Jim Bertelsen, Ken Geddes and via trades ... Fred Dryer and John Williams.
All those guys were quality starters for multiple years; and more than half became Pro Bowlers.
