Post event notes, (added in 2019):
This event was settled with all bets losing. Officially Long and Wells were released on the same day and the notifications came in the same press release. Officially it was a tie and in 2015 the Sportsbook didn't have a facility to pay bets as a dead-heat. The options available were to pay out in full on both results, settle ALL outcomes as a push with stakes refunded, or settle ALL bets as losers. In 2014 the ROD cash system had been something of a joke. Members had tens of millions of ROD$, with some having hundreds of millions, and 2 members having over 2 billion. In 2015 the amount of ROD$ available after the reset was greatly reduced to levels that were more acceptable, or meaningful, to the ROD community. That reset had already occurred after this Sportsbook was opened but prior to bet settlement. Paying winners or refunding stakes would have greatly upset the balance for 2015. The decision to settle all bets as losers was very unpopular with at least 1 member that stood to gain from a settlement. However, a decision to pay or refund stakes would have been very unpopular with at least 1 member of the ROD staff, (at that time), who felt it was against what ROD was supposed to be about for any member to benefit in the new ROD year/season from something bad happening to Rams players.
I wasn't part of the Sportsbook at that time but I have tried to heed the lessons from this issue. I don't post Sportsbooks that won't conclude before a possible reset period, (mid-February to late March). I keep a tight lid on how much can be won on any Sportsbook so members don't think they can, or are entitled to, win unlimited amounts of ROD$. Other than the Super Bowl no Sportsbook has a win limit that can singularly affect the outcome of ROD Richest Member. Towards the end of the year I tend to lower Sportsbook win limits in case any reset comes early and the following year cash amounts are lower. I do post Sportsbooks on players making and not making the Rams initial 53-man roster, but the win limits for not making the roster are very low and definitely lower than win limits for making the roster. I avoid purely negative Rams outcomes such as if/when Jeff Fisher was fired.
For the record I would have settled this event as a push since there was no clear winner and I would have refunded all stakes on this Sportsbook. Members would have been able to have large ROD$ standings for 3 or 4 days. I would then have had another ROD$ reset.
