McVay described it as a groin strain in his presser. It all depends on the grade of the strain moving forward.

I hope not with Dan Bailey available. I still dont trust Ficken. Hopefully GZ is fine but im concerned.
Bailey has explained the reason he is unsigned by saying he's waiting for the right situation. As much as I would completely endorse signing him as a short term replacement, I'm guessing he's looking for a season long job with a Superbowl contender. It certainly doesn't hurt to call him if Zuerlein is out for a few weeks.

Cleveland needs one for sure. Hopefully GZ will be back soon, until then...Ficken
Browns would have won today with Baily

But given the choice, I think any FA would choose LA over Cleveland

I'm fine with Ficken as needed. He had a bad first game but he was solid after that including the playoff game.

Ive heard and seen people have back surgery and never be the same. All your nevers go through your back so last year when he got hurt and had surgery i knew it would linger. Sorry to say but we need to be looking for a new kicker. BUT i hope this isnt the case but odds are it is

Maybe some you have seen. I had surgery on my L4 20 years ago and have been playing Basketball 2-3 times a week ever since with no issues. Every back issue is unique. The Groin is a muscle pull and nothing related to the Spine or the nerves.

This. Every back is unique. In fact, there are some studies out there that show that many people lead normal physical lives with disc herniations and them never causing them any problems. There's some interesting work being done on autonomic dysfunction as a mediator of some back pain and not structural issues. The human body is crazy.

The conspiracy theorist in me ponders this...

WHAT IF....Zuerlein didn't really injure himself in warmups? I mean that's just weird. He's a Kicker. Did anyone actually SEE him get hurt? Did anyone SEE him on the sidelines during the game after being ruled out?

WHAT IF....McVay, in our 2nd preseason game today, just wanted to get some 4th and go and 2-point conversion reps in for our guys?
WHAT IF....the plan all along was to work on the red zone offense?

I know this may have been said in jest - but I was tracking the game through my NFL app and didn't know that Greg had pulled his groin, I honestly thought that this was McVay flexing his muscles and running 2pt reps for the closer games that are potentially ahead - I also though it was showing how big his balls were from the get go and when I saw that Hekker had taken a FG, I thought the app was messing up! Hekker can ably step in if needed - I bet he's getting bored with all these first downs we're completing anyhow.

I've seen McVay grow this season already - from the ballsy 'not playing starters in pre-season' to the patience and poise in the Oakland game. This was a very short week for the Rams, and we pulled through with a clean sheet. You can't ask for more really.

I do hope Greg is OK though, I'd rather not see him on IR if we can hep it...

IMHO, Ficken has earned some trust.

After Tennessee game, he’s been solid on FG, XP, and KOs.

Well, I'd take Dan Bailey over Ficken, but it depends on the length of time GZ will be out.

If it's gonna be a long go, then I'd try to get Bailey who's apparently waiting for the right opportunity (read: not gonna sign to play in Cleveland or Buffalo).

But if it's only gonna be a few weeks, I'd be okay with Ficken.

That said, Ficken against the Vikes isn't super comforting...

If GZ is out for the season we will probably be the team Bailey dreams of joining. LA weather and that stacked roster, what else can he ask for.
The Vikes might try to grab him too though and they would be super attractive too

is having a bad case of heartburn early this regular season.....first he lost his pro bowl Kick & punt returner WR Pharoh Cooper & then his top Gunner WR Mike Thomas in the first game of the season. Cooper goes on IR & Thomas's return is unknown. Then just before the 2nd gm. begins his pro bowl kicker sprung his grommit & his return from injury is unknown too.

Bones has a bit of luck as Hekker showcases his superman ability in beig able to replace Greg The Leg on Kickoffs & makes FG's & Extra Points plays. On top of that Bones new returnman is on fire in his relief position...Jo Jo electrifying ! The super slender framed Bones may have gotten skinnier worrying about this start to this season.

Keep it up Bones  your the man!

If GZ is out for the long haul, I want Eddy Pineiro if he shakes loose with an injury settlement. He is one of the few guys on Earth who can rival GZ's leg and is very accurate.

Ficken's leg strength looked much better this pre-season than last season. If Ficken doesn't watch out he may end up having a decent NFL career. He certainly looks better than a few place kickers I saw yesterday.
