Where the Dude abides: -X-s' $30 million home, built by Kenny Loggins

We all know the Dude abides — but who knew he did it in such a head-turning abode?

Oscar-winning actor and "The Big Lebowski" star Jeff Bridges has listed his longtime home near Santa Barbara, California. The asking price: $29.5 million.

Glancing at the immense 20-acre property, you might think it was owned by "Iron Man" billionaire Tony Stark, whom Bridges squared off against in that 2008 movie, rather than a less-than-flashy actor like Jeff Bridges. But apparently that's what decades of being a dependable Hollywood mainstay can buy you.

"It's in probably the most premium of all the areas in Montecito," his real estate agent, Suzanne Perkins of Sotheby’s International Realty, tells Yahoo Homes. "The ocean and mountain views are spectacular."

Bridges and his wife of 38 years, Susan, bought the five-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot house from musician Kenny Loggins in 1994 after the Northridge earthquake chased them out of their Santa Monica home. According an article from that time in the Los Angeles Times, Bridges paid just under $7 million for Loggins' Tuscan-style property, which the music star built in 1988 (he was probably still flush with all that money from "Danger Zone").

Kenny Loggins circa Top Gun (1986), in the video for Danger Zone. He had the Montecito mansion built soon afterward. …

"I'd known [Kenny Loggins] for years," Bridges told the Montecito Journal in 2007. "My wife and I fell in love to his music."

It's clear they also fell in love with Loggins' old house. A spokesperson for Loggins told the Wall Street Journal that Loggins was responsible for many of the home's design touches, including its antique Italian tiles and a stone mantel.

Bridges and his wife upgraded it during their 21 years of residence, Perkins tells Yahoo Homes, with flourishes including a music studio.

So why is Bridges selling? Blame empty-nest syndrome: The couple have three daughters, but "their family is grown and it's time for them to scale down and find something that's more comfortable for themselves," says Perkins.

We just hope the home comes with the rugs. They really tie the rooms together.

Yeah, I read the article yesterday. I was struck by how much that home and property suits his personality. I could definitely see myself on that back patio near sunset sipping a White Russian.
