pump your breaks....I need to see a lil more...like real season games

We just beat the Seahawks 42-7 IN SEATTLE.

I'm sorry, but if that's not enough, nothing will be.

You act like the GSOT beat a winning team during the regular season (in 1999, they didn't. after starting 10-0, they went 3-3 down the stretch losing all 3 games to teams with a winning record, iirc)

I loved the GSOT.

That said, it's just not right to say more needs to be seen to even draw comparisons.

We're close in offensive PPG, better in defensive points allowed, better special teams and have had a tougher strength of schedule (tho not by much).

I'm not saying this team is as good as the GSOT...yet.

But to say we need to see more "real" games after our 5 game stretch...

That's something I don't see.

Edit: Sorry @LACHAMP46 . I didn't read the dates...LOL. My bad!

Give us 23.7 points per game along with a stout defense(like we've had even before Wade got here) and we're on to something. I'd do cartwheels in a bed of hot coals if our offense could avg that...which is about the middle of the pack these days and good enough to win playoff games if your D is top 10.

Would you believe....almost 32 ppg?

Missed it by that much...

The NFL network just put out the top 10 offenses of all time and the GSOT was #1.

Not easy to overthrow that team.

Start with a Super Bowl and some amazing offense in the postseason.

Remember how football analysts, experts, and fans compared the 2016 Falcons to the GSOT? They didn't even win the Super Bowl and their offense has been very mediocre this year. Before anyone claims to be the second coming they must at least be the best offense in nearly every category for 3 years straight. Even then, they'd have to set numerous records, have multiple MVPs and accolades, and a Super Bowl ring or two just to be in the same breathe as the '99-'01 teams.

Let's face it; there's a 99.9% chance that there will never be another offense like the Greatest Show On Turf. An offense that potent comes around once, maybe twice in a lifetime. This 2017 Rams team is on the right track, but only time will tell how they stack-up against the Greatest.

True enough.

And the only reason they didn't score BOATLOADS more was that in a number of games, they were up so big, they took their foot off the gas.

If this were like college where point differential mattered, those Rams woulda set scoring records no one would see...ever. They coulda broken 600 pts...easily.

This team has that in common in that they've dropped 40+ 3 times and 35+ more than that and they could have really run up the score in some of these games.

Obviously, an excellent effort in SEA Sunday in all phases of the game. I cannot explain the satisfaction I felt! Watched the game again yesterday... just plain fun!!

Can this team beat anyone? Absolutely!

Will this team beat everyone? That remains to be seen.

It's just my view and all.. .but this is still a very young team with a first time head coach.

IMO, they are still learning as they go... and that means (to me) that bumps in the road ahead are still very possible.

Little question now that the Rams are in the playoffs (although not officially yet). How far can they go? Depends on how much they've learned and how much they have yet to learn.

The really exciting thing to me? They will, as some point in the not-too-distant future, have learned all they need to become a powerhouse for years. Biggest thing they may need to master? Defections/additions/drafts/free agency dealings.

But, barring any disasters there? A dynasty!!

For clarity regarding 1999....
- They started 6-0 not 10-0
- They then lost their next 2 games to the Titans and the Lions respectively
- They finished out the season 7-1, losing the last game of the year to the Eagles, mostly due to playing the 2s for half the game. The average score during the 7 game winning streak was 33 - 12, so I'd say they took care of business against lesser teams and had a pretty stout defense.

It is true they didn't beat a winning team during the regular season, although the Niners were 3-1 when they played them the first time and the Ravens ended up 8-8.

While I'm sure some still want to compare our offense to 1999 (to 2002...). This team is as much, if not more, defined by it's defense. Yeah, the media types haven't quite wrapped their minds around Aaron Donald and the 15-20 characters that certainly are not Dwarfs......Just shutting down an offense, wherever the Rams play, led by SonofBum. A much more complete team.

Yeah... I was under the impression that the 1999-2000 team wasn't all that great on defense.

But, when I went back and looked at the only stat I care about - Points Per Game:
1999: 15.1 PPG
2017 (thus far): 19.4 PPG

Offense
1999: 32.9 PPG
2017 (thus far): 31.7 PPG

That 1999-2000 team was really remarkable!

Now... in 2000-2001, that defense went down the crapper... allowing 29.4 PPG. IIRC, that's what precipitated the hiring of Lovie Smith.

But why that defense might have had "better" numbers, it was built to defend the pass. Period! And no one had ever seen an offense like we had, so they went into "hurry up" mode and was not designed to do it. Our first loss that year was to Fisher and Tennessee. And they controlled the clock and ran it on us. It was the blueprint to beat those Rams. This year, it's about, giving up a big play or 2 and then shutting the other team down. (w/ the exceptions of SF.....and Philly.) But everything else shut down. I'd almost bet, if you would take away 1 play a game, we'd be averaging 2 to 3 pts a game less. (I'm @ work or I'd crunch the numbers....).

I haven't been this excited about the Rams since Week 5 of 1999 when I decided to become a fan.
Holy shit dude are we in a parallel universe? That's the same week I started rooting for the Rams
Also, home run with your prediction. I wasn't buying any of that.
Only part I disagree is that you said Gurley is no Marshall Faulk. I think you mean Faulk is no Todd Gurley ;)

2017 Rams have the special teams edge on the GSOT. Defensively I'd call it a wash. Remember the Rams had their own defensive guru in Bud Carson. Even though he left before the Rams SB season the scheme they were running was still his brainchild. Rewatching the 1999 season the defense stands out as much as the offense, especially in the first month, where the defensive front is devouring offensive lines, particularly Kevin Carter, who is in the backfield seemingly every other play. Fast, aggressive playmakers at all levels who scored eight defensive return TDs that year.

And those losses though...
Down 10 with 2 minutes to go, Rams score a td, get the onsides kick and Money misses a chip shot FG and then down 9 to Detroit in the 4th Q they storm back to take a 3 point lead only to watch the defense give up a game winning TD drive....
There are losses that are bad, Like Seattle getting CRUSHED, then there are losses that almost feel like wins....

No....he said it right. One day we might can compare Gurley to Faulk, but not yet. Faulk knew his position so well......but he knew everyone else's as well. I'm sure you've heard about the time Hakim was injured on a play. It would have cost us a time out which we didn't have. And the run off might have ended the game. Faulk quickly picked Hakim up and held him upright, so we could spike the ball and stop the clock. And then drug him to the sideline where he could get help.

2017 Rams are not the GSOT, but damn I'm almost enjoying this season just as much as '99. So many good stories this year; Baby McVay unleashing, Goff, etc., etc., etc.

Man, it's been tough being a long time Rams fan with many down years, but the up years...they're really way, way up! Rams don't seem to like mediocrity. They either suck or kill it. I'll take it that way!
