I was reading The Daily Dose: Rams Receive High Offseason Grade from NFL Executives, and one throwaway comment was the number of penalties he has had in his career, even as he had the best PFF grades of his career at the same timei. He has had 42 penalties in the last three years. That's averaging 14 penalties a year, and almost 1 penalty per game that extended drives for the Dolphins opponents. How many points did that cost the Dolphins?

With the greater, more talented people around him, will it mean less penalties because the game is not totally on him for the first time ever? Or is a penalty generating Suh just part of the package?

I haven't watched him, but I see 42 penalties from 2012-2016. Yeah, the 37 in last three years is still a lot. Last year he got them in clusters -- 13 in seven games. 2015 is clustered too.

Based on the high number of encroachment/offsides/neutral zone infractions, I'm guessing Suh likes to jump the snap?

On the one hand, if guessing is part of Suh's game, guess penalties are probably part of the package.

On the other hand, the way the penalties seem clustered, and also seeing how there are proportionately fewer in the first quarter, there might be some conscious strategy at work here that Wade could coach out of him if he wants to.

In short, IDK.

I will accept an unnecessary roughness call on Jimmy Garoppolo.

Facing nothing but constant unending double teams his whole career, I'm not going to hold it against him if he tried to gain an edge and get a jump on his foes. I'm thinking we might see less of that with Brockers and Donald lined up with him.

As far as personal fouls go, I'm good with the nasty trenchwork as long as he isn't stomping on knees and facemasks.

Oh, I'm sure he will still get his share of them. He's an aggressive guy that doesn't back down, ever. Those players will always get penalties here and there. And once they have a reputation for it the refs will tend to have itchy flag hands and watch them like a hawk. So it'll happen, but hopefully he can dial them back a little bit since he doesn't have to do it all on his own anymore. But it's fine, give them a free first down before Donald, Suh, and Brockers break their QB.

Oh he’s gonna do something stupid again. That’s just an inevitability. He has a hard time controlling his temper, and probably always will. I really don’t have a problem with that, because Lots of our players have done stupid shit over the years. Only question, is he going to do something stupid in a situation where it could potentially cost us a game. And I’m sure we’ll have that kind of debate somewhere along the way this year. Brace yourselves.

Have a gut feeling he's gonna do something egregious like step on Wentz's leg, Suh stepped on Rodgers's ankle back when he was playing for Detroit.

Yeah. Me too. People who have a hard time maintaining their composure usually abandon all rational thinking in the heat of the moment.

I like his nastiness.

Our opponents will hate it.
Was just thinking the same thing. How much psychological edge will we get every defensive play with players on edge as to when Suh might go bananas. Oh, and then they'll also be freaking out over the Donald guy next to him.

I think Rams Defense has chance to be all time intimidating and in the company of the all time greats. All the pieces are in place from top to bottom.

Spags the 4 pillar guy sucked & never had control of his team. The defense was always playing from behind & on the field to much.

If you want to live in the Fisher era then keep living in the past with Hard Knox as Chuck Knox is dead & the U if Oregon coach sucked & Belotti Changed that program before Little ego took over there & is now at UCLA.

If you listen to McVay talking to Brookers in Behind the Grind!! He is telling about watch for the Hard Count !!

If you dig deep to what made Jared Goff & the O”line excellent last season was the snap count & the number of times Rhe Rams went the right way instead of Bulger & Bradford going the wrong way & wasting time outs.
McVay had his growing pains with the use of TO’s, but that will be a lot better this season.

Suh & Petters will be mellowed down, because they won’t be on the field as much in 2018. Wade will have things under control. There is a lot of R.e.s.p.e.c.t. for him.

It will be interesting for sure. I have to think that some of that rage comes from being doubled and tripled almost every snap. There is always dirty shit happening at the line and if you have two to three people doing it to you where the refs can't see it, that would cause many people to explode. If you have shown a propensity for it, that is likely to make the coaches of the other team tell their players to try to get him to explode.

There's no excuse for some of what he has done in the past. But maybe just maybe this is a new kind of situation for him. He might feel a little more free out there. And if he can thump the QB before the whistle, maybe he will get his fix that way instead of through stupid acts of frustration.
