Pay close attention near the end of the video clip. You'll see Whitworth very secretly pulling Devonta Freeman by his hair to get him out of that scrum...

As much as I love AD I still don't think he's on MO's level just by longevity and level of play within that. This being said I have never seen one game by Merlin in person or on live TV. I wonder if they could go back and watch all the games and count how much he and Deacon had? Tha would be awsome!it has been said a thousand times, but sack records don't mean shit without Deacon Jones and Jack Youngblood...AD would be about 5th, for now.
He could get to #1 but not in my mind.
I have him as the #2 DT behind Merlin Olsen, but he hasn't played as long as Merlin either.
How many Pro Bowls for MO, 14 in a row?

Imagine if he played next to an edge rusher of Jones' level....
He may never be better than a franchise great player from the 60s-70s who was also a beloved tv star but Donald is ALREADY one of the best to ever play interior D line, a 1st Ballot HOFer and 2 time def MVP, who despite being in the same league as Rodgers, Brady and Mahomes, he is still regularly regarded by his peers and sports writers as "the best player in the NFL".
It wouldn't matter if he could break Olson's records, some fans will always love Merlin more.... but for me and every other fan born after 1975, he is the best Rams defender we have ever seen - and it isn't close.
My post came off belittling Aaron and that would be my inability to articulate.
I saw Merlin and Deacon play on TV as a boy. Many times.
Incredible teammates.
In between plays, they stood, glaring at Unitas or Starr or Brodie or Tarkenton, to project their size and intimidate...D-lines often take a knee between plays.
I wore 74 a couple years during Jr. High football.
Olsen had Donald’s get off and incredible strength.
99 is the best in the game, on track to equal or exceed Olsen.
This team has had historic defensive lineman.
It's at about the 50 second time mark - I tried to copy the time into the hyperlink.
However this is actual footage of AD practicing picking up dudes (Freeman).
