This is a thread to find out whatever happened to players/coaches/GM's or anyone else associated with the Rams in the past. I'll kick things off with Jason Brown.

Former NFL center Jason Brown does something truly sweet

Once upon a time, Jason Brown was the highest-paid center in the NFL.

Now, he’s doing something even more rewarding.

Via Aaron Moody of the Raleigh News and Observer, the former Ravens and Rams center became a farmer after he retired, and is turning over his harvest to his local community.

Brown struck it rich in football when he signed a five-year, $37.5 million deal with the Rams in free agency in 2009. When he retired after being released in 2012, he bought a 1,000-acre farm near Louisburg, N.C., and he began giving away crops from his First Fruits Farm to local charities.

The University of North Carolina product just had 40,000 pounds of sweet potatoes unloaded near campus, donating his entire crop to area food pantries and shelters.

Former NFL star dumped 20 tons of sweet potatoes on a Chapel Hill lawn – with good intent
BY AARON MOODY

It wasn’t too long ago that Jason Brown had a multimillion-dollar contract to play as a center in the NFL.

So some might find it odd that the North Carolina native and former UNC standout had 40,000 pounds of sweet potatoes dumped on a lawn next to the Chapel Hill campus, as tweets from the university showed Saturday morning.

View: https://twitter.com/UNC/status/962336659621777408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newsobserver.com%2Fnews%2Flocal%2Farticle199489679.html

The explanation: Brown walked away from professional football in 2012 because he wanted to feed the hungry. He bought a thousand-acre farm near Louisburg, and in 2014 his First Fruits Farm made its first donation of sweet potatoes – giving away the entire crop to area food pantries and shelters.

Funny I had a good friend of mine and fellow Ram brother that ran into Jason Brown at an Indian Restaurant in North Carolina....Not sure on the city, but I'm sure close to Raleigh-Durham...Actually conversed with Brown and said he was really down to earth. Always felt Brown was a bust as a free agent signing, really gained weight after the signing and was ineffective IMHO, but loves working the farm as Football was the vessel providing him the opportunity to capture his dream.

So happy for Jason Brown. I remember that he was big into helping the military as well because his brother was killed in Afghanistan. I'm proud that the man was a Ram.

QB Trent Green

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trent_Green

Trent+Green+Buffalo+Bills+v+St+Louis+Rams+lT6_0DiWVK0l.jpg

First stint with Rams
In 1999, Green was slated to be the starter for the Rams, but suffered a gruesome season-ending knee injury in a preseason game on a hit by Rodney Harrison of the Chargers. Unheralded backup Kurt Warner took over for Green, and led the Rams to a 13-3 season culminating in a dramatic 23-16 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV.

In 2000, Green began the season as the backup to Warner, the reigning NFL MVP. He started five games in the middle of the season while Warner was out with a broken hand. Green and Warner combined to lead the Rams to the then-highest team passing yards total in NFL history.

With Warner back at quarterback, the Rams were upset in the wild card round by the New Orleans Saints. Green was traded during the offseason to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 12th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Second stint with Rams
On March 10, 2008, Green agreed to a three-year deal worth about $9 million with the St. Louis Rams, rejoining the team he played for in 1999 and 2000. On September 23, 2008, Green was named the starter of the Rams for week 4 of the 2008 season versus the Bills. He completed 17 of 32 passes for 236 yards, one interception and a quarterback rating of 64.1.

On November 9, 2008, against the Jets, Green took over for Marc Bulger after Bulger was shut out by the Jets in the first half.

The Rams released Green on February 25, 2009.

Retirement
Green retired from professional football on June 12, 2009, citing a desire to pursue a career in broadcasting. Green's agent, Jim Steiner, said "He had a long, prosperous, very successful career. He believes he can still play, but the demand isn't real high out there right now and he's not the type of guy who is going to sit around for four or five months waiting for the phone to ring."

News item, July 13: In conjunction with a bipartisan effort to reform the criminal justice system, President Obama commuted the sentences of 46 non-violent drug offenders, many of whom had been serving lengthy federal prison terms under mandatory sentencing guidelines established in the ’80s and ’90s as part of the so-called War on Drugs. According to The Washington Post, since the Obama administration announced plans last year to commute the sentences of certain non-violent offenders, more than 35,000 inmates, 17 percent of the federal prison population, have applied for clemency.

YAZOO CITY, Miss.—When Los Angeles Rams cornerback Darryl Henley was convicted 20 years ago of conspiring to traffic cocaine, it deeply injured the hundred or so people closest to the formerly highly regarded hometown hero—and elicited a yawn from everyone else.

It was March 28, 1995—Kato Kaelin’s final day on the witness stand in the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Mark Fuhrmann’s testimony had concluded a few days earlier. No one cared about the 10-week federal drug trial that was wrapping up in Orange County, twenty miles south of Judge Ito’s courtroom in downtown L.A. Newspaper readers didn’t concern themselves with the item that appeared about the Henley juror who had called the five defendants “n------” during the trial and predicted that they were “gonna hang.” And even fewer noticed in 2001—after five years of FBI work and court testimony on the issue—when the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals admonished Henley’s trial judge by reminding him that “the Sixth Amendment is violated by ‘the bias or prejudice of even a single juror.’”

Scowling WWE superstar Bill Goldberg, who spent 12 years away from the squared circle before a brief but memorable return that began in 2016, is the first announced member of the WWE's 2018 Hall of Fame class. . . .

-------

NFL Rams/Falcons
In 1990, Goldberg was drafted by the LA Rams of the National Football League. Goldberg went to the team’s training camp but was cut before the start of the season. Goldberg played two years with the Sacramento Surge in the World League of American Football before he made it to the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons in 1992-94. The Carolina Panthers picked him up in the 1995 expansion draft, but an injury kept him on the sideline. Lex Luger and Sting saw him rehabbing, and pointed him to the ring. During his time with the Falcons, Goldberg was know as Deion Sander’s “Enforcer” – a prelude to his dominant wrestling career.

Crews—who was recognized as one of the Silence Breakers, TIME’s Person of the Year—realized that men had a responsibility to lend credence and support to these women’s claims. Almost without thinking through the consequences, Crews tweeted out his own story; in his viral series of tweets, he became one of the first men to join the chorus of women speaking out about harassment.

FEBRUARY 2, 2018 COMMUNITY NEWS

The Bassmasters Club held its annual Awards Banquet at the country club on Jan. 20. Club members have been battling for the past 12 months for the biggest fish and most points. The year-end results are as follows:
  • 1st place and Angler of the Year: Nolan Cromwell.
  • 2nd place: Travis Smith.
  • 3rd place: Jim Wright.
The Big Fish award went to Mark White whose fish weighed 7.66 points.

The Sportsman of the Year award went to Jim Wright. Jim serves on the club’s board as weight master and volunteers at all the club’s community events.

The Bassmasters Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Magnolia Room at the country club. Monthly tournaments are held on the first Saturday of each month. Residents who like to fish and want to improve their skills in a low stress, friendly competitive environment are welcome to join. For more information about membership, call Terry Voss at 951-536-9341.

Nolan Cromwell played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1977-87. During his career he recorded 37 interceptions, which is the second-highest total in franchise history. The Rams drafted Cromwell in the second round (31st overall) in the 1977 NFL Draft.

Q: What is your current occupation and how do you fill your time now that you’re done playing football?

A: Well I am retired from coaching, which I had a great time doing. Then I enjoy fishing. I fish in a lot of little small tournaments, and I enjoy spending time with my wife, Mary, and doing things that as a coach you miss out on all those years.

Q: What is your favorite memory while playing for the Rams organization?

A: Probably the players that I played with. I played with a lot of great players. The game meant a lot to them – it wasn’t just the money – and they really played their hearts out. It was all about the team concept more than any individual type of awards. So the players that I played with are what I remember the most.

Q: If you could go back and replay one game during your career, which game would that be?

A: Oh, I would have to replay Super Bowl XIV. I had an opportunity to make a play in that game that I think at any time I could make that play – I could make an interception on that opposite hit play and possibly make a difference in the outcome.

Q: What, if any, was your pregame ritual back in the day?

A: I usually tried to get around and say “Good luck” to everybody on the team. I would go around locker to locker and shake everybody’s hands and wish them good luck and I think that was kind of my deal, that made me feel good and ready to play.

Q: Who do you admire most?

A: The one guy that jumps out of my mind that I always think about is Mike Holmgren. I coached for him for 15 years and he treated everybody with great respect and he demanded your best and watching him deal and put a team together, I thought he was really one of the best that I’ve been around.

Q: Favorite visiting city when you were playing?
A: I would probably say, New Orleans.

Q: Which three former Ram teammates would you like to have dinner with tonight?

A: Well, every time you mention the Rams I think of the guys I played with. It would be the guys that I always went hunting and fishing with. It’d be Jim Youngblood, Larry Brooks, Jack Youngblood, Carl Ekern, Bob Brudzinski. That was kind of the group that we spent time hunting and fishing together on our days off and I think it kept our sanity.

CB Dré Bly

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dré_Bly#St._Louis_Rams

The St. Louis Rams selected Bly in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Bly started his career in St. Louis, playing there for four years. While with the Rams, Bly received a Super Bowl ring for Super Bowl XXXIV, and appeared two years later in Super Bowl XXXVI, when the Rams lost to the New England Patriots.

In 2003, Bly left the St. Louis Rams and signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions. He made the Pro Bowl in two of his seasons with the team. On March 1, 2007, Bly was traded by the Detroit Lions to the Denver Broncos for running back Tatum Bell, offensive tackle George Foster, and a 5th round draft pick.

On May 21, 2009, Bly signed a one-year, $845,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers. On July 2, 2010, Bly re-signed with the Detroit Lions. Bly was released on September 4, 2010.

Bly Finds Passion in Coaching
Former UNC cornerback has gotten heavily involved in youth sports since retiring from the NFL.

How does Dré Bly get the attention of the young people he coaches? Simple. He talks about his resumé – three-time all-American, college hall of famer, Super Bowl champion, two-time Pro Bowler, one All-Pro selection — then offers this: Despite all his success, he could’ve done more.

“I left some things out there on the table,” Bly admits. “I was one of those guys that it came naturally for me. If I (had) a work ethic with my natural ability, I probably could’ve done more. Instead of making two Pro Bowls, make six Pro Bowls. Instead of being a college hall of famer, being possibly a first/second ballot pro hall of famer. I know that’s the highest of the high, but those were goals that were within reach for me.”

At 39, Bly isn’t bothered looking back. He has a great life-- a wife and five kids in Charlotte. But he doesn’t shy away from disappointment or failure when he talks to his players. Basically, if a guy like Bly thinks he could’ve worked harder or been more humble, what does that mean for them?

“Those are things I look back on when I try to help these kids today,” Bly says. “Just don’t take things for granted. Don’t just rely on your ability.”

Since retiring from the NFL in 2010, Bly has been involved with three youth programs: Carolina BlackSox baseball, Hammer Down Tar Heels football, and Myers Park High School football. He handles high-level operations for the BlackSox and Hammer Down – lots of scheduling and organizing – and is an assistant coach for a Myers Park team that finished 11-2 last season.

“I’m a coach. That’s what I realized,” Bly says. “I tried the broadcasting thing but what I love, what I’m passionate about, is giving back and helping and mentoring these kids.”

Both the BlackSox and Hammer Down are youth travel teams, essentially the summer basketball model but for baseball and football. Bly is proud that each organization provides professional-level instruction with former major leaguers Tony Womack and Devon Lowery coaching the BlackSox teams and Deems May, Muhsin Muhammad, Roger Purgason, Frank Garcia and others helping with Hammer Down. Bly helps out in practice for both.

“I think I have the personality (to coach),” Bly says. “I think people relate to me. You’ve got to be able to talk. But also, you’ve got to have passion for it, man, and I definitely have passion. I’ve always been a competitor.”

The next step for Bly is likely a move to college or possibly the pros. With his children getting older, he’s put out feelers but is still pondering his next move.

“I would love to have the opportunity to come back to my alma mater. Be involved with those guys, if the opportunity presents itself,” Bly says. “Just gotta see how it goes, man. Everybody’s window is different and timeline is different.”

Bly keeps in touch with the UNC staff, specifically Gunter Brewer and Larry Fedora, who he says reminds him of Mack Brown. He also met new defensive backs coach Terry Joseph recently.

Regardless of what happens, Bly isn’t measuring coaching success by accolades.

“I’m fulfilling my dream right now,” Bly says. “Relationships -- that’s everything and more to me.”

Bly still keeps in close touch with many of his former teammates. He has a running group chat with Tar Heel legends and they take trips together.

“Robert Williams, the best cover corner to ever play at Carolina. Brian Simmons, I talk to him. I talk to Greg Ellis. Octavus Barnes, Omar Brown, Alge Crumpler,” Bly lists. “The bond we formed while we were at Carolina, we still share. They’re my brothers man. They’re my best friends in this lifetime.”

Scowling WWE superstar Bill Goldberg, who spent 12 years away from the squared circle before a brief but memorable return that began in 2016, is the first announced member of the WWE's 2018 Hall of Fame class. . . .

He was one of the worst wrestlers. He injured a few guys because he sucked w/ true wrestling skills. IMHO he's not worth a HOF nod..

My 2 cents

Where's the other Goldberg? (Adam)

OT Adam Goldberg

On September 2, 2006, the Vikings traded Goldberg to the St. Louis Rams for the seventh-round selection (209th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft. In 2006, he played in final 15 games of the season with two starts for the Rams.

The following season, 2007, he played in four games with two starts before being placed on reserve/injured list with a left knee injury suffered in Week 4. An unrestricted free agent in the 2009 offseason, Goldberg was re-signed by the Rams on March 20, 2009, to a two-year $1.8 million contract.
-------------------------------------------------
Goldberg became a free agent after the 2011 season but no one signed him. There's nothing else on the net about him after his career in the NFL that I've been able to find.
