That punt was him coming up REALLY BIG in a critical moment versus a true threat of a returner and he took away his chance at a big return by driving him twenty yards backwards to get the ball. Hill is a guy who can break off a big return on any punt.

Hekker pinned them deep, and in order for them to even get a FG to tie was going to be hard to do starting that far away and just one timeout on a short clock.

A 68 yard punt was just what the doctor ordered!!!

FYI his plant foot was at about the 23 yard line, so the ball went 77 yards in the air. That's simply remarkable.

Hekker was great, needed him only a few times and Johnny answered the bell.

It's really fun to watch him, and I know it's the punting team but for some reason I always feel like "oh boy here it comes" and they are going to pull a fake. Ever since they did it and pulled it off deep in their own territory it's sort of a "well they did it from there they could do it from there" feeling. So I'm expecting it each time LOL.

And once in awhile it's awesome to see him blast one like that.

I did mention it in another thread we'd see some "special" plays from Hekker and Co. It was a couple great punts which changed field position when we needed to.

I really hope we are the first team to run a fake extra point (since the rule change). It's there for the taking for any team willing to try it.

I'd like to see that too!

It would be hard because of the formation and because Hekker is kneeling when taking the snap.

Not impossible, but not easy for sure.

This is an unsung benefit of faking as much as we've done with him. Special teams are on safe mode much of the time, which limits big returns somewhat. With Hill, that is a huge deal. In this case, didn't matter much since Hekker blasted it so well on his opportunites and Hill made 2 poor decisions as he tried to make something happen...

Clearly the GOAT of punters. He can even kick field goals and complete passes occasionally.

He had a 0.0 passer rating. What a joke.

He's signed through the 2022 season. Let's lock him in for another 10 years, please.

Exactly. If we are feeling they are going to pull a fake so are the players/coaches on the other team. They have to be ready for a fake which takes away from setting up for a return..... Love it!

I'm just glad he's no longer our best player!
May still be our best player, just not our most important. In a close playoff game, Hecker, Zuerlein, or even Middleton with a block could be the difference. Major strength of the Rams.

Top 10 maybe...
1. Donald
2. Goff
3. Gurley
4. Woods
5. Cupp
6. Cooks
7. OL - 5 way tie
8. Talib (from what I remember)
9. Hekker, Suh, GZ, #50
10. everyone else

Hekker is the greatest punter of all time. Others especially Donald may be in that conversation for their position, but Hekker actually is the GOAT for his.

You know something: I believe that was the turning point of the game-at least one of them.

I put Talib at #4. Our D was giving up 12ppg with him and basically 30 without him.

Hekker will go down as the best punter of all time. What he does is incredible but its the consistency that makes him stand out. Add in the potential for him to pass it and he's a threat the other team have to account for even though he's a punter. Crazy
