Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher- Training Camp Post-Practice- 8.11.15

(On if they are ready to play a game)

“Yeah, we’re getting close. Like we said yesterday, we’re going to discuss play time and kind of sort out how things are going to go. But, we’re looking forward to it. They did a really good job the last three days. They know obviously tomorrow is the day off for them. We come back and we have a little walk-thru. Then we will prepare for the Raiders and go out there and play a ball game.”

(On having a good crowd for the last day of open practice)
“We’ve had great crowds since we started camp. Unfortunately for our fans because of the circumstances where we’re going to be practicing out there it kind of shuts down… I wouldn’t say shuts down but it reduces the number of opportunities they have to come out and watch us. But it was great, great to have them out here today. Things change from the players stand point. We come back and all of a sudden it is quiet. It’s players and you guys. There’s no fans out. It was a good camp overall so far. We still have a lot of work to do.”

(On what he wants out of this first preseason game)
“We’re going to play younger players particularly in the second half. When you look at the roster and you start looking at the 51st, 52nd, and 53rd player so much of it has to do with their ability to contribute on special teams. We’re going to give guys opportunities to do some things and show us some things on special teams. But the same time being mindful of the fact that if they’re playing every snap on defense, and then going out and covering every kick that’s hard. We’re going to try and create opportunities for the younger players so they can show us what they’re doing.”

(On what specific players have surprised him in camp)
“Everybody has really had a good camp. I’ve been pleased with everything. Position by position, I think we’ve gotten better in each area. I guess the one guy that I probably would point out, single out, would be (QB) Nick (Foles). Nick’s had a really good camp. I’m just really proud of him and happy that he’s here, so it will be fun to watch him play a little bit.”

(On how much QB Nick Foles will play at Oakland)
“I think you’d expect a couple of series, something like that, and then we’ll start making changes. We want to protect him. We don’t want to get him hit, get rid of the ball. (Raiders Head) Coach (Jack) Del Rio is a good football coach, a defensive guy, and he’s going to have them rolling off, so we just have to be smart offensively.”

(On going longer with the offensive line to get the younger guys more reps)
“We’ve got some younger guys that will probably play into the second half. I don’t know how much (T) Rob (Havenstein) and ‘JB’ (G Jamon Brown) will play beyond the other guys. I think you can expect to see them play three or four series.”

@-X- , How do you start a ROD Sportsbook bet?

How about: Who starts at Center against the Raiders?

Going by our much appreciated ROD camp contributors, I think Rhaney has the edge only because I haven't heard as many negative comments about him. Barnes seems to be doing well in run blocking, but both he and Jones are getting schooled by our pass rush. Coach B said the key is how well they anchor the middle and not get pushed back in the pocket. Let's make some odds and do this! I need to rebuild my ROD dollar empire.

I'd give everyone on the O-Line, except Saffold, the entire first half.....
maybe even GRob too. I'm sorry but at this point I'm paranoid as shit. If just one of those two go down on the blind side... dude.

Well if our defense is as good as we think it is doesn't it follow that there is good reason the offense hasn't dominated in camp? Not to mention the fact that the offense has had some good days from reading the camp reports and Fish's comments.

Way I see it the Raiders do not have a defense the caliber of the Rams and it's preseason so they're gonna get a lot more straight up stuff than what Williams has been torturing them with in camp. So I expect the offense to look good throughout, from the ones to the bottom of the depth chart. Running game should be there for all four quarters for starters. Mannion should kill it against the Raiders' threes and bubble players too. Edit: Oh and from what I've been reading I think the Rams will get some big plays on screens as well.

I think after the Raiders game the Rams will find themselves with a legitimate 3-way fight for backup QB.
