This is starting to look like a “pinch me” ‘17 draft...

Especially considering that there was no 1st rounder.

Three quality starters in their first year.

Kupp
Johnson
Smart

A very substantial contributor in Ebukam.

And two more players that I feel have quality future starters written all over them in Everett and Reynolds.

So, of the 8 picks, all but Sam Rogers made the 53 and are either strong starters or strongly in Rams short term future plans.

Like I said, Pinch me!

When you get 2 rookie defensive starters added to this Rams defense....one from a late second day pick & the other from a late 3rd day pick you have done very well. Its been a long time since we seen this. Last yrs Draft Fishers defensive draft pick Josh Forrest has already released back in August.

Our 2015 late 7th round pick LB'er Bryce Hager but he has yet to start a game. I originally thought that BH would be a decent reserve 43 "D" WSLB but it may be that I was wrong. BH looked better as an active smart 34 inside LB'er in pre season for Wade. He seems to have the head for this defense & is a low econo priced back up defensive caller @ the moment. BH's ST play is also outstanding! BN will need a big run thumper next to him inside if he is going to be really effective over any length in time.

The 2017 3rd day selection of ER Ebukam Samson is trending upward too & I would expect this Nigeria born selection to take away snaps from Robert Quinn as the season continues. Wade will eventually be forced to getting better performance from that right ER post sooner or later & he is not getting it from Quinn.

Smart will only get better but, I wonder how he is grading out?

Will be interesting have Joyner back playing with Johnson. The defense just got upgraded.

Kupp is Kupp.

Everett's had some nice plays but I want him to step it up now.

Ebukam contributing

Reynolds is getting his feet wet with some PT.

The one guy I thought could add to the much need pass rush has not been on the field and that is Ejuan Price. He has a motor and can really run. A little bit raw but lot's of potential.

Agree for the lack of a #1 pick the Rams came away with quantity and quality.

This post inspired me to look back at the Rams drafts. In hindsight they'e pretty good overall. I mean, drafting is a gamble, right.

Some drafted players by year:

2012: Michael Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Trumaine Johnson, Greg Zuerline

2013: Tavon Austin, Alex Olgetree, T.J. McDonald, Zac Stacy

2014: Aaron Donald, Lamarcus Joyner, Tre Mason, E.J. Gaines

2015: Todd Gurley, Rob Havenstein, Jamon Brown, Sean Manion

2016: Jared Goff, Tyler Higbee, Pharoh Cooper, Tamerrick Hemingway, Mike Thomas

2017: Gerald Everett, Cooper Kupp, John Johnson, Josh Reynolds, Samson Ebukam, Tanzel Smart

14 current starters from these drafts; 4 current contributors. Not bad!

P.S. Yes, I purposely left GRob out. I call amnesia on that pick!

All of the young guys who are coming in and essentially getting their NFL training from this staff are succeeding. This is a staff that is full of teachers.

Some of our veterans may just be coming into their own as they get away from their old habits and establish the habits that this staff wants.

Such as Quinn.

I like the optimism but way too soon on all of them.

I really like what I saw from Johnson. The Rams haven't had a ball hawking safety since OJ Atogwe .
