The Seahawks Offense Looks Formidable

They were the #9 offense last year and add Jaxon Smith-Njigba to compliment Metcalf, Lockett, and Noah Fant in the passing game. That will be a tough group to stop.

They add Charbonnet to 1000yd rusher Kenneth Walker. That’s solid depth.

They have another year under the belt of young tackles Cross and Lucas. The oline should gel more.

That looks like an offense that could step up to top 5, to me. They will be damn good on this side of the ball.

A lot depends on which Geno Smith they get… but he was VERY good last year.

Got to give Pete Carroll credit, they reloaded fast after the Wilson era.

But the key for Seattle is their defense. Defense is what has been holding them back. It will be why they are likely to finish behind SF in spite of that fantastic collection of offensive talent.

History says Smith at best will be close to what he was last year, but more likely not as good. There are a lot of reasons a QB is like that, some of the consistency issues with Smith might be psychological. I think he peaked last year and will struggle to match it this year. I think the Rams match up well.

I do think if there is a team that will take a step back is likely to be SF more than Seattle. I do feel that the Rams can take the division, but it's likely to come down to the Rams and Hawks. The 49ers don't even know who is going to be their QB. They could get in a deep W/L problem early that they might not overcome.

Charbonnet isn't a 3 down RB in the NFL right now. I've watched him and he's very inconsistent. He's not a tackle-breaker despite his size. He has inconsistent hands as a receiver and is a poor pass blocker. There are times he looked very indecisive, so you wonder is it field vision or mental? On some outside runs Charbonnet seemed to hesitate instead of breaking for the boundary he seem to be looking for a gap.

I think Zach Evans is a better RB overall, and he will break tackles that Charbonnet won't. Evans is a better receiver than Charbonnet as well. Evans is a far better fit for this offense. He's a strong inside runner with the ability to threaten edges as well. More than that he gives the Rams an option to extending Akers if he want's too much. Evans can be a #1 RB in this offense.

But the real difference is the Rams have Stafford and Kupp. IMO Smith is a good tier 2 QB but hardly elite.

Two things on that:
1) Smith shouldn’t be asked to do much other than not fuck it up. He might have to make 3-5 necessary plays a game; otherwise, the balance of all of those weapons should steer the ship for most of the game while they try to just grind you down. Reminds me of the 9ers.

2) Have you noticed that since carrol took over the seahawks that there has been an increased intensity between them and the Rams, especially starting when fisher was hired? No matter which team is having a good year and who is having a down season, most of the seahawk/Rams games are tough.

Maybe I’m drinking too much koolaid, but I’m warming to the idea of getting them opening day. It could very well be a shootout, spoiling the 3-5 play plan for smith and the seahawks.

Ultimately, isn’t that what the Rams’ strategy is supposed to be this year?

I do like the intensity in those hawk games, have been to a few and winni g in Seaderall is about as good as it gets.

What are they (The Rams) going to be? Who knows at this point, they might decide to pound it down their throat that first game if the Oline and Akers are cooking. That would be way better than a shootout for me.

I'm still not completely sold on Geno. While I think he looked pretty good, an entire offseason for defenses to study film and habits will surely create an interesting 2023 season.

Smith is the most underestimated QB in the NFL (except for a former Ram whose name I won't mention in order to avoid having this thread locked.) Smith is the real deal and so is the Seahawks offense.

Seattle also picked the best CB in the draft Devon Witherspoon, who is NFL ready.

Rams will have their hands full with Seattle and their next four opponents. Rams' offense should be ok but the reorganized D needs to hit the ground running. Really a sink or swim start to the season.
