Didn't look like the Saints were all that fooled by the fake - it was really just some great blocking by Harkey and Lawrence Wilson and a bit of good luck.

Our left guard on the play - Aaron Hill - gets beaten and thrown down right into the legs of a DT who might have made the tackle.

Following that, a pretty nifty cut by Reynolds (combined with Sabino sticking with his block) turned it from what would have been a 5 yd play to a 35 yd play.

Your point?

If I need to have a point every time I make a post, I may as well just become a lurker, because I would post like once every other year. I just thought it was interesting how that play came to work - that the Saints didn't seem to be fooled at all - the Rams just executed their blocks.

Damn @Alan he was just making an observation. Maybe that they need to make more of an effort to hide what we are doing.

That's a bonus in my book. You can use all the trickery in the world, but every play comes down to execution.
I don't know if they were fooled or not, but I was. I can tell because I LOL'd when it happened.

You don't have to make a point Box. I was just looking to hear more from you on the subject.
Stuff like:
Do you think the play wasn't designed well?
Was the "pretense/acting " of the players the reason the play didn't fool the Saints? That's often the reason a fake play doesn't fool the opposition.
Did Fisher pick the wrong time to try it?

Plays don't work/fool the opposition all the time so I just wondered why you wanted to talk about this one. Turns out you actually didn't want to talk about it. You might think about cutting down on the caffeine or let me know you don't want to talk before I waste my time. "I have no particular point Alan, I just thought it was an interesting play" would have worked with me.

Have a great day Box and get some good sleep tonight. :)

Maybe it's just me, but in the preseason, I'd like to see teams attempt more 4th down conversions. The games don't count, the punter really doesn't need the reps. Sure there are a couple of S/T battles to be waged, but I think the experience of that high leverage situation is a bit more rewarding than punt coverage.

I thought the play was designed just fine - it wasn't fancy - pretty vanilla really which is what you would expect from a preseason showing. Its not that anyone telegraphed it - just that the Saints maintained their discipline. I think it was a good call by Fisher, it sure surprised me. I just found it interesting that it wasn't the 'trick' that got the job done.

I'll try to watch my words a bit more carefully, I didn't expect this to be a hostile thread - I was trying to start a discussion about the play - thats why I started the thread. I can't promise not to waste any more of your time - this is a football message board after all - aren't we all kind of just wasting our time here?

You don't need to watch anything. I suspect most people reading this thread are laughing.:cautious:

BTW - time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time. :shades:

It was well executed. I just wonder when they have practiced it because I don't recall hearing that the ST's unit was spending any serious time working on it. If they only ran it a few times in practice and put it together that well I'm happy.......I like this type of play because it can be a momentum changer in a tight game.

Not to mention Fisher has the defense to back it up if it doesn't work.

And ya wonder why there are so many skirmishes in training camp. Players just want to hit some body, and the season cant get here fast enough, Same with all forum posters, they are ready for some real competition. My solution, go troll other teams forums

disclaimer: not saying one poster or the other is trolling

Sorry about that Box. I'd just recently returned from spending 4 hours in the hospital with one of my son's who is continuing his alcoholic death spiral. I got on yesterday thinking that it would take my mind off the situation. Turned out not to be a good idea. I'm not using that as an excuse, just mentioning mitigating circumstances. Turns out I'm the one who could have used some more sleep.

As I mentioned above, I wasn't trying to be snarky when I said "what's your point", but you certainly didn't deserve my response. I'll be taking a break from the ROD until the situation here gets resolved but I just wanted to apologize to you first.

I likes me some Harkey, even though IMO he could spell the end of Kendricks who I thought was gonna be an All Pro that is WHEN Kendricks contract comes up
