Texans releasing Brian Hoyer

The Texans signed a new starting quarterback this offseason in Brock Osweiler and they have Brandon Weeden and Tom Savage in reserve, which doesn’t leave much space for Brian Hoyer on the depth chart.
As a result, Hoyer won’t be on the depth chart much longer. According to multiple reports, the Texans are releasing Hoyer ahead of the start of their offseason program on Monday.
Hoyer started nine games for the Texans last season, missing time when he was benched in favor of Ryan Mallett early in the season and when he suffered a concussion later in the year. He returned for the final game of the regular season and the team’s playoff game against Kansas City, but went 15-of-34 and threw four interceptions in a 30-0 loss that likely upped the urgency to find a new quarterback in Houston.
While Hoyer struggled in that outing, he should generate interest in a market short on quarterbacks with starting experience. The Broncos and Jets, neither of whom have settled on a starter, could be among the teams interested in his services although a spot as a backup might be a more likely next step for Hoyer.
