Actually, it depends on what your talking about. Table games, slots and poker machines - pretty much a loser.

I've never bet anything but football, college and pro, so I can't speak to the other sports. $25-50 on 3 or 4 games makes 'em more interesting if you have no fan interest.
Parlays are fun, 3 and 4 teamers are VERY hard to hit - great when you do though. Relatively speaking though, if your betting 25-50 on a side or total, the parlay would be 25, 3 teamer 10, and a 4- teamer 5. Just my personal rule of thumb. That said, the best handicappers - people that gamble for a living - only have a 55-60% hit rate in the NFL - but they're still making 10-20% on their money, (minus the vig).

But - that's why they call it gambling. Like everything else, it can be fun in moderation.

Yeah see, this is what I'm talking about. I only understood about 65% of what you said. I guess I better do some research on how to read the rules and understanding the lingo.

The only thing I'm really interested in is dropping a $25. Bet on a NFL game or two once a week that I think I can win on. I'm not actually going to any casinos or anything like that (sorry for the confusion.)

The only money I will be spending is money I know I can afford to lose. I'm way too tight fisted to spend money unless I feel it's a sure thing or at least close to it in my mind.

I appreciate everyone's concern, y I'm doing this purely for leisure and I honestly don't have a ton of extra money to spend anyways. I just thought it would be a good way to spice up the weekend.

No one here has betted on vegas odds online??
Not online but I live in Nevada in a town with plenty of casinos.
I will bet every now and then but generally I suck.
I know a co worker who makes side money betting mostly hockey and baseball....totals, usually not winners and losers.
I enjoy futures because I can wait months to see how bad my pick was instead of the usually 30 minutes it takes for me to realize I am going to lose.
This years big pick? Taking the Vikings over 7.5 wins.
A lot of "weekend" gamblers do parley cards. They are fun but you have very slim chances of winning. College basketball and football can be easier ways to win if you do your research.

Well, as a former casino craps pit boss, shift manager, and training school manager, and being that much of the advice in this thread is bad advice, I will just say welcome to the world of gambling advice!

If I were you, I would PM @flv for advice. The bookies understand the odds. It's what they do.

I love to gamble but rarely do. I might be the most patient gambler you ever met. And I don't gamble on games much, I use the stock market. I buy and sell from my investment account that is there solely for me to do this.

My last investment was years ago when TARP passed and Citibank and Bank of America were ridiculously undervalued when we KNEW the US would do anything to keep them afloat. Either one failing could bring the world economies to their knees in that terrible economic environment. Safest bet I ever made. Guaranteed by our tax dollars.

In sports betting, keep in mind that the odds are set to get as many people to bet on one side of the game as the other. They aren't predictions. The bookie wants his fee and he wants the losers to pay the winners. If he's doing it right, he has no stake in the outcome of the game. If they have lopsided betting, they will even shed themselves of those bets by laying them off on another bookie.

So, IF I were to bet on a game, I would look for games where the perception was not the reality. Where a team coming off 5 wins against poor running teams and is susceptible to the running game, is going up against a very good running team but the bandwagon betters are skewing the line in favor of the team on a roll.

I don't know enough about football to make those bets, so I don't.

Just remember, the bookie is a drug dealer and that drug is adrenaline. Once you're buying adrenaline and not making logical well informed bets, it's time to walk away. That goes for all betting.

Great advice brother. I'm doing this purely for fun with money I know I can lose. I'll definitely be hitting up flv for advice. Being a bookie is my ultimate goal. I learn pretty fast myself.

RF is dead on. It's all about the rush/fun. Even when you DO win, you figure you're on a roll, so you make more bets with your winnings.
Then guess what happens. :palm:

Haha, nice.
I never said any advice I gave was good. I said upfront I suck at it. Free advice is worth every penny usually.

I didn't actually see ANY advice on this thread, except don't do it, (which is actually good advice).
