After 16 seasons, 1,031 catches, 14,731 yards and 81 touchdowns, Steve Smithhas officially hung up his spikes for good. Smith sent a letter to Roger Goodell earlier this week notifying the commissioner of his retirement.

On Friday, Smith released that letter to the world.

The print is pretty small there, so in case you can't read it, Smith wrote, "This is to notify you that as of today I, Steve Smith Sr., will no longer be terrorizing defensive backs. I am retiring from the National Football League."

OF COURSE that's how Steve Smith retired from the NFL. It couldn't have gone down any other way for one of the most legendary trash-talkers of his era. That's just perfect.

The only think I liked him was that he showed that a determined little guy could actually play in the NFL. His attitude, personality didn't like. He seems pretty nice in that commercial where he was with those kids though.

He will no longer be "antagonizing" me either... now that he's retired.

I can only say this now that I know he won't be playing against my Rams again... "He was a real BADASS on the field. Wish he would have played for the Rams."

Loved me some Steve Smith. I never understood why we never traded for or picked somebody up like him or Brandon Marshall and then have the shit show of WR's since Tory Holt .

Lol Janoris got owned by him When with us.

Like him or not he was a hell of a competitor. The Rams need a few guys with the desire to win like he had .

Didn't like him as a person (don't forget that he sucker-punched a guy on his own team in training camp). Can't deny that he was a good football player, especially for his size.

Hope you have a wonderful and happy retirement, you son of a bitch.

For all you kids that are looked down on because you are too small. Not only can you play the sport you love, you CAN be as good as any to ever play. Steve Smith showed how it's done. You play with confidence, unwavering toughness and Never back down to any man. And do it in style!!

Yea he was mouthy. Yea he's no role model. He made mistakes. But he never backed down to any man. Yea I remember when he knocked us out of the playoffs in overtime. It hurt.

He's 7 inches shorter than Brian Quick.

The game is won by heart not size.
