Some afternoon Rams notes

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Obviously, it's been a busy few days around the St. Louis Rams and here at Rams Park. The Michael Sam story has already provided its share of twists and turns and will only get more interesting as we head toward Organized Team Activities.

But so they don't get lost in the shuffle, here are a few quick hits that might have been lost in the shuffle in the past week:

In case you missed it in my column from Wednesday night, the Rams insist that the docuseries on Sam being produced by the Oprah Winfrey Network will not be a distraction for the team. Although the team did not know about the deal before using the 249th overall pick on Sam, it will have a major say in how much access the camera crew will have to Sam and the team at Rams Park and during any other team functions. As it was put to me, the documentary team will have the same access as "normal media." So don't expect to see those cameras around the team facility much, if at all.

Those who pay close attention to the roster and, more specifically, the practice squad, wondered how Sam was issued No. 96 when defensive lineman Mason Brodine already had that number. Well, Brodine is changing positions and numbers. He is moving to tight end and will now wear No. 86.

Of the Rams' 11 rookies, 10 attended Tuesday's news conference with the lone exception being offensive tackle Mitchell Van Dyk, the seventh-round draft pick out of Portland State. Because Portland State is on the quarter system, Van Dyk had to wait to join his teammates. He was scheduled to arrive Thursday afternoon.

In minor roster news, the Rams brought back long snapper Jorgen Hus this week. Hus was in Rams camp last year and actually drew some attention for a YouTube video in which he does a variety of "trick" snaps. Hus signed with Seattle this offseason, but the Seahawks placed him on waivers Monday.

The addition of Hus puts the Rams roster at exactly 90 players.

The Rams aren't having a regular rookie minicamp, per se. But they will have a brief availability for media to watch the rookies take part in a conditioning period Friday morning. We'll have coverage of that right here on ESPN.com and on television.
