Ok, it's natural to look at a team with affection in almost any sport which has either never won the ultimate prize, or hasn't won it in the living memory of most of its fans.

The lovable loser is someone you normally root for, until after they actually win a championship. Most have an internal love for the underdog. Our perception of them is assaulted when the bragging new Champs hoist the trophy. Suddenly those lovably losers are a bunch of bastids and you want them to shut up already, as they start talking about how great they are.

It happened against us after Super Bowl 34 at the beginning of the GSOT. I can't think of all of the NFC fans who told me "Yeah, I wanted the Rams to win, but they began to be @ssholes about it." Look at the Eagles last year, which made me forget ever feeling for their years of pathetic failures (Screw them). The same is true for the lovable loser Chicago Cubs, freak them. The Red Sox? GTFO!

I wonder, what is the psychological reason why we despise them after they metamorphise from lovable losers into bragging winners?

Let's skip the shocking change and just hate them now. Cardinals, Browns, Bills, freak you you losers! My foot is on your necks!

I always pulled for the Bills, but they sure make it tough to root for them with the dumb front office moves they make.

Overall, anyone that loves an underdog, despises bratwurst and assholes. For many of these young men, winning tends to turn them into that.

I loved the GSOT Rams. They were professionals that worked at their game and won with respect and dignity, except for Marts. I hated his little happy dances on the sideline.

I like this current Rams team, so far. They aren't over doing the celebrations. They act more like they are doing their job. That probably rubs off of the coaches demeanor. But, the book is still out on the new additions.

Mostly it is the fans that ruin it for me. I hate Philly fans. The team is tolerable.

Rooting for the underdog is always more exciting and satisfying if they win, than a winning team winning again.

Think Rocky Balboa!

You know what cured me of rooting for Boston over New York?

Boston fans.

They went from lovable losers to intolerable d-bags so fast, I was gaslighting myself...telling myself stories that it couldn't be this bad literally overnight.

It felt like saving someone from drowning only to have them knock you down and teabag you... you're like "I was there for you when you were drowning!" and Boston fan is like, "Yeah, but now I'm a winner to feast on these nuts!"

But...Rocky...so I'm still rooting for Cleveland. But, so help me, if they turn out to be like Boston fan, I'm done with underdogs...

Ah fans get arrogant and in a hurry after years of losing I feel they deserve it. I have crushed Philadelphia fans over the years, I have even posted over the years I felt more secure in Kuwait City or in Baghdad then I ever did watching an Eagles game in Philadelphia while donning Ram Paraphernalia.

However, over the years I have learned to deal with it, Boston fans are funny because of the way they enunciate verbiage. Yankee fans are indigent, but with 27 World Series Titles (even though most did not live through many) how can they not be? However, when the Super Bowl is being played I always ask myself "Do I know any fans from that team?" And if the answer is no, then that is who I usually root for, but the last Super Bowl was different. I despise New England and the Eagles had never won a Super Bowl so it was easy to root for Philadelphia regardless of their fan base.

Overall I can deal with fans as long as they know their sports, if not, then I have no time for ignorance. Although you have to be prepared for a quick witted response to disarm them. For example I recall that ten years ago myself with a few friends attended the Rams vs New York Jet game in which the Rams were slaughtered by the score of 47-3 and a drunk Jet fan approached my friend's wife, in which I stepped in front and yelled "47" and I responded by saying "Your IQ." and told his friends to get his drunken ass away from us and they actually apologized. Again nothing personal, but it does tend to make things a tad more difficult to attend games, however, it's like paying for a good hotel or a suite, sometimes you pay just to avoid the riffraff and again nothing personal.

We should give Boston and New England back to England.

It's odd thinking back on the other NFL teams I considered "safe" to root for as a kid. I picked teams that weren't in the Rams division, weren't that great, and had likeable players. So when the Seahawks and Cardinals were on TV, I pulled for them, especially against the dreaded Raiders and Cowboys. Who would have thought they'd both end up in the NFC West and I'd hate them so much?

The Browns fans, and as you know from living there I know lots, are far classier than Boston fans.

When the Patriots sucked that stadium was empty, and that was in an era where tickets and concessions were not priced the way they are now. Fast forward and the team is excellent and the stadium is full. Bandwagon anyone?

Browns fans turn out for their team, they care all the time.

When Art Modell was fighting with the city about a new stadium and the city proposed and did a model for a 63,000 seat stadium he laughed and said (paraphrasing here) "I can put a 3-13 team on the field and sell 75,000 seats why would I want a place this small".

Just Google "Browns fans" and you will see article after article about how good that fan base is, one of the best in the world according to some people.

They will never be the arrogant asswipes that Boston fans have become.

It's been since 1964, a fact that every fan knows..........every single one can name that year.

It's been quite a drought for that club, they have suffered from bad ownership for decades, as in half a century.

haha....I remember back when the Rams and the Browns had almost a yearly NFL game, for no apparent reason, except i think people were alive still who watched the Rams win a Championship in Cleveland, and then they soon after got the Browns who also won a Championship there... But you are talking about 1964, which I would imagine the vast majority of Brown's fans never experienced. It's hard for me to do more than appreciate from afar, the Rams winning the Championship in 1951...I have no passion about it and I certainly wasn't cocky about that Championship in the 1970's (when I became a fanatic). Just saying, you don't know how Browns fans will act when they win a Championship and experience being on top of the NFL World.

That's because you ain't so good either.
Haha! I remember one Cards game I went to. I won 2 bank of America club tickets. All you can eat buffet and beer on tap. I took my then girlfriend. I was silly drunk by about the bottom of the 5th. Anyways, they were playing the Braves and there was a smoking hot (beer goggles?) Braves fan right next to me. I started telling her how the Braves have always been my secret crush and all kinds of trash haha. My girlfriend wasn't too amused. She was a bitch anyways.

That's the hope. I wouldn't mind Cleveland winning one during the Rams' dynasty that's coming.
